So there's a collaborative effort taking place to try to find some strategies to deal with
this because we frequently have an arrest situation, bring them in, we can't find any
treatment centers, nobody will take them based upon the current regulations, and then
it's a minor misdemeanor or something, they just simply get released and go right back
out on the street. This kind of this endless loop that we keep doing, or they'll show up
then in Westlake, and then the next day, a couple days later, they'll be in River, and then
a few days later, they'll be right back here in North Olmsted. So there's an
acknowledgment by the West Shore Communities that it is a problem, it's an issue that
we're gonna try to address, but it's a first step. Whether that can be addressed or not, I
don't know, but we're certainly looking for new resources and approaches to try to deal
with this. As it goes along, I suspect there'll be some additional meetings with some
helpful information exchanged while we were there, and we're going to look to some
outside jurisdictions to see how they're dealing with R. As always, funding's a problem,
and so at some point in time, there might be a request to come back and talk to you
folks about what we could do to try to assist with some of the treatment costs, else we
continue to have the problem. So I just wanted to let you know that that is a project
that's going on, and I'll keep you up to date when and if anything further develops.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Director. Director of Finance Copfer, do you have a report this evening?
Finance Director Copfer:
Mr. President, I do not, since I took 19 minutes of your time last time. So I thought I would
spare you. Have a great evening.
Council President Brossard:
We appreciate that. I'll just speak for myself. Moving into Council Committee reports.
Committee of the Whole
I will first provide a report from the last Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday,
September 24, 2024, at 6:45 p.m. Present were all of Council, the Directors of Law, Economic
Development, Service, and the Mayor's Special Assistant.
The meeting was held to hear from Travis Stewart of Karpinski Engineering, who
provided an overview of his plan to provide audio/visual capabilities in both the Caucus
and Council Chambers, allowing Council, once again, to stream their meetings and to
improve the venue capabilities for our boards and commissions. The majority of Council
approved moving forward to the bidding process, and the Committee concluded at 7:15
p.m.
Councilman Limpert, chairman of the Building, Zoning, and Development Committee, do you
have a report this evening?
30-01-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 3
