REPORTS
Mayor Jones:
I do, Mr. President. Thank you.
• I also would like to extend our congratulations to Councilman Glassburn on his victory
last night. We will certainly miss having you here at this dais, but you know that I have
your cell phone number, and we are looking forward to your representation of our City
in Columbus. So congratulations, and congratulations to all the winners last night, and
thank you to all who ran for office, whether you were victorious or not. As you all know
up here, it is an endeavor that is like no other when you run for office, and we all
certainly appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into that. So that will conclude
my report about that. Moving on to North Olmsted City business.
• If you haven't had an opportunity to see it, I recommend that you drive past the T.L.
Rooney Cleaning Company building here on Dover Center Road. The mural was painted
in memory of three year-old Julian Wood. It's been completed now, and that mural was
painted by an internationally known muralist, Arlin Graff. It features a large dinosaur
with lots of color of green, and as you know, dinosaurs and green were little Julian's
favorite things. I thank the members of the North Olmsted Arts Commission for
spearheading this community project. The mural was created at no cost. Sherwin
Williams in North Olmsted donated the paint for this mural, and I think it's a wonderful
tribute to little Julian. So I thank everyone who was involved in that effort.
• Speaking of our Arts Commission, our local arts group is hosting an upcoming holiday
concert on Sunday, December 15th at the Springvale Ballroom at 4 p.m. The concert will
feature holiday music performed by Symphony West Orchestra members. Tickets are on
sale now for $30 and are available in my office for those who are interested, and all
members of Council are invited to attend. You may not know, but the Symphony West
Orchestra actually was started here in North Olmsted.
• This past Friday morning, I had the pleasure to cut the ribbon at the grand opening of
Sweets and Geeks, our newest business inside Great Northern Mall. If you are looking
for throwback candy, a variety of sodas, or a unique gift, such as Pokemon or Funko
Pops, things that I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that I know a lot about now,
please check them out.
• Speaking of the mall, Great Northern Mall will host its annual Santa Parade from 5:30
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15th. This event is also sponsored by our city
and Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine. You can kick off the joy of the holiday season with
festive activities and entertainment, including games and music with Northeast Ohio
creatives, costume characters, stilt walkers, and complimentary hot chocolate.
• Also keeping in with the theme of upcoming holidays, North Olmsted Evangelical Friends
Church on Great Northern Boulevard will host a Christmas market on November 15th
and 16th. There are going to be local artisans and vendors featured and food available.
• Tickets are now on sale at the North Olmsted Senior Center, as well as online, for a pre -
Thanksgiving Holiday Dance on November 21st from 6 until 9 p.m. at Springvale, which
is sponsored by our Department of Recreation and Public Engagement. Ticket cost is
$10.
11-06-24 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
