dispatching, only for the city of Fairview Park. In addition to serving our 33,000 North
Olmsted residents, and more during the day. It's been a busy week so far, at our
dispatch center, but we continue to keep all of our residents safe. I want to once again
thank our Director of Public Safety, Director Scofield. Our police chief, our fire chief,
Fire Captain Matt Peters, and Police Lieutenant Chuck Fiorito for everything that has
been done in the last several months to make this all happen, and happen so
seamlessly, with a smooth transition. I continue to say it, with every opportunity that we
have, we have the best safety forces in any of our cities here in Northeast Ohio.
Some news, good news for North Olmsted. We had made a request for 1.1. Million
dollars from the Water Resources Development Act. Which is authorizing legislation,
but it doesn't include this funding. However, we can't get the federal funding, unless
we've been included in the Water Resources Development Act legislation, which we
have been. So that's good news. It is a comprehensive legislative package, that provides
for the conservation and development of water, and its related resources. It authorizes
the Secretary of the Army, through the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works
to conduct studies, construct project and research activities, that can lead to the
improvement of rivers and harbors of the U.S. and the funding of these studies and
projects, is provided separately, through the annual energy and water development
appropriations process, and at times, through additional supplemental appropriations.
The project that was included in this legislation, was the main line that comes from
Mastick down the hill, and connects into our wastewater treatment plant at Shepherds
Lane. So that's exciting news, that we sort of got that first part clinched and now we're
moving forward, to request that funding. So very proud of that initiative.
The North Olmsted Arts Commission held a wonderful event this past Sunday afternoon
at Springvale Ballroom. A holiday concert featuring the members of Symphony West
Orchestra. There were about 85 guests in attendance, who enjoyed the holiday music,
and some food and fellowship. Proceeds from this first ever event will benefit the north
Olmsted Arts Commission, which served as a sponsor of the event. It was such a success
that they hope to make it even bigger and better next year.
The North Olmsted Senior Center will host their annual Christmas party, this Thursday,
December 19th, at 12:30 p.m. The Rat Pack will be on hand to celebrate a winter
wonderland Christmas holiday, and they will perform both traditional and holiday
favorites. Dessert will be provided by Rockport Senior Living, and all members of
Council, if you're available, are invited to attend. This concludes my report for this
evening, and once again, Happy Holidays to all of you, and all of our residents of North
Olmsted.
Council President Brossard:
Thanks so much Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law Director Gareau:
Just best wishes for a happy holiday season, and a healthy and prosperous new year next year,
and no report.
