Mayor Jones:
I can allow, if Mr. President, you'll allow Safety Director Scofield to approach the microphone
and answer.
Council President Brossard:
Certainly.
Safety Director Scofield:
Good evening, Safety Director Jennifer Scofield. We have a dedicated Public Safety IT
professional who, part of his assignment is to manage our body camera footage, so in that
regard we have no additional expense associated with this other than his time and the
maintenance associated with the program.
Jeff Sturgeon:
[Inaudible. Mr. Sturgeon wanted to thank Council for appointment Matt Marrie to Ward II
Councilmember and thinks he will be a great asset. Mr. Marrie also questioned the time frame
listed on the website for the first Charter Review Commission meeting, noting it was posted to
run from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.]
Law Director Gareau:
Certainly for a first organizational meeting, I can't imagine a meeting going until 11 o'clock. I
think it'll be a fairly brief meeting. They might have just reserved it for that period of time or
something for the Chamber, for the Caucus room, but no, it's a first meeting. It's get everybody
sworn in, plan your next meetings, and go from there. So I would think it's going to be pretty
brief, and it should not be five hours long.
Jeff Sturgeon:
I know five years ago we had some long meetings.
Law Director Gareau:
But not five hours.
Jeff Sturgeon:
No, I'm like, oh, my gosh.
Council President Brossard:
I believe we're required to put a stop time. Even though no one expects it to go that long.
Law Director Gareau:
I can remember, Mr. President, several years ago, we had a brand new member appointed
under the Civil Service Commission, and then the meeting was her first meeting, and the
meeting went more than five hours, and her first response was, what have you gotten me into?
So I don't think that's going to happen here. It's happened, but it's not going to happen here.
01-21-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 12
