who bike to school. Butternut Ridge Road serves as an access point to neighborhoods south of Lorain
Road.
Burns Rd & Revere Rd: These two roads provide access to the North Olmsted High School and Middle
School campus from the back. There are sidewalks to Burns Rd but a missing sidewalk connection to
Revere Rd.
North Olmsted Walking and Biking Trail: Access to the campus is also provided by the walking and
biking trail that runs along 1-480 connecting Sterns Rd to Great Northern Blvd.
Lorain Road: Lorain Road is a 5 lane, fast-moving roadway with a high traffic volume and frequent
intersection which poses several safety concerns. While crosswalks and pedestrian signals
are available at the intersections, the speed and density of vehicles still make crossing safely a challenge,
especially for students. Lorain Rd lacks pedestrian buffers and forces students to walk in close proximity
to fast-moving traffic which is an uncomfortable and unsafe experience.
Dover Center Road: Dover Center Road connects Butternut Ridge Road to Lorain Road right at an
intersection which allows students to cross Lorain Road. For high school students especially, this can be
a popular route to access the afterschool hang out places/ restaurants along Lorain Road.
The primary intersections that students walking and biking cross to get to school are:
» Butternut Ridge Road midblock crosswalk to Library
n Butternut Ridge Road/ Dover Center Road
» Lorain Road/ Butternut Ridge Road
Figure 5.
