Arrival and Dismissal Process
North Olmsted High School
In the past, there has been concerns regarding morning traffic in the North Olmsted High School entrance. Since
then, there has been some traffic light adjustment as well as a traffic map to direct traffic in and out of the
school.
Arrival —for the North Olmsted High School, door opens at 7:25 and classes starts at 8:00. Cars enters the school
premise through the Butternut Ridge Rd/ Dover Center Rd driveway and drops off students at the main
entrance. Then, cars are directed to turn right at the Performing Arts Center stop sign and continue to exit
through the traffic circle around the back of the stadium at Midvale Road. Burns Rd and Revere Rd can be used
to exit the campus. Cars are also allowed to wrap around the stadium and exit the Middle School drive into
Butternut Ridge Rd. The North Olmsted High School traffic map is provided below.
Dismissal —The North Olmsted High School dismissal time is 3:01. Some high school students have early
dismissal, which coincides with the middle school dismissal. Two "Waiting for pick-up' lanes are provided for
parents or care givers to wait and pick up students. The through lane are between the waiting lanes to provide a
better through access.
Students that walked or biked home utilized the sidewalks of the neighborhood streets Ito Dover Center Rd and
along Butternut Ridge Rd towards the east side). It was observed that the library across the school at Butternut
Ridge Rd is a popular space for students to wait to be picked -up. There is a midblock crosswalk with yellow
flashing signal heads triggered by pedestrians to help them to cross. Unfortunately, it was also observed that
many cars do not yield to the pedestrians.
Students were also observed using the rear exit doors to leave the building instead of the main entrance doors.
These rear exit doors do not have a defined path/ sidewalk and is a field of grass (Figure 8).
Figure 9. Rear exit doors with no pathway
MG Y
