Dover Center Road. As mentioned at the last meeting, the cold patch is not as effective
as hot patching, but due to the temperatures right now, we have to cold patch.
However, if the pothole is not deep enough or if there is precipitation, it will pop the
patch out. This is very frustrating to not only everyone here in this room, but to our
residents. Please know we are doing the absolute best we can, and have as many
people as we can, out every day working on patching holes. I would encourage residents
to continue to inform our Service Department of where holes are, but to also have
patience as this is a battle that happens every Winter, and until we can start hot
patching in the Spring, we will just have to continue with the cold patch, until the
temperatures allow us to fix the streets properly.
• Council may start to get complaints soon from residents regarding an increase to their
electric bills, as electric prices are going to go up in lune. If you hear from residents,
please do not hesitate to send them to my office, where my staff will be happy to talk
with them about it. NOPEC is our City aggregate; they also will be providing information
soon that we will share with Council, to help answer questions that residents may have.
The issue is capacity. It is a complicated topic, and we had a 50 -minute Board of Control
meeting that focused on the increased cost of capacity, when we were looking at our
electric supplier for the next couple of years. The short answer is there is expected to be
more demand in the next few years as some big data centers, and other electric -
intensive projects come online in the Midwest, so the cost of capacity is going up. It
does not matter who you select as your electric supplier, as they are all subject to the
cost of this increased capacity. I would encourage residents to use the Apples to Apples
comparison website from the State, or to look into NOPEC to determine what is the best
option for each resident. As always, while my office cannot recommend a specific
supplier, we are happy to help try to educate our residents so they can make an
informed decision.
• Finally, the State budget has been released, and I'm looking forward to working with our
State Representative and our State Senator to ensure we continue to get our fair share
of state funding. I'm happy to say that in the last three years, I feel we've been very
successful in getting money from the State for our City projects, and I'm hopeful that
that will continue with our asks in this year's State Budget. Mr. President, that concludes
my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law
Law Director Gareau:
No report this evening, thank you, Mr. President.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you. Director of Finance Copfer, do you have a report this evening?
02-18-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
