• It's been a long time coming, but I am finally happy to announce that the rock -climbing
wall in our pool has received approval from the State of Ohio. We're going to have a
ribbon -cutting on Friday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. I hope all of Council will be there, and if you
climb the wall, you'll get a special treat at the end at the ribbon -cutting. I'm looking at
you, Paul Shymske... climb that wall.
• Coming on June 13th from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., we will be hosting our annual Touch a
Truck event. It will be at the North Olmsted Recreation Center parking lot. This is a fun,
free event where residents and young children can come meet the people who protect,
serve, and build our community, and get inside our different emergency and public
service vehicles. Again, that is June 13th from 11 until 1. And we are able to officially
announce that the fireworks show here in the City of North Olmsted will be on Saturday,
August 23rd, pending Council approval. You'll see this on your agenda for this evening. I
am happy to say that my administration has worked closely with Community Council
since their announcement that homecoming has been cancelled. And we are going to
keep this event going, slightly different this year. But it will be a one -day event with the
popular Taste of North Olmsted following the homecoming parade. Then the day will
conclude with a concert and a fireworks show. So we, as the City, have tried to reach
out to the Community Council and still help our community celebrate homecoming.
Maybe it might not look exactly the way that it has in the past, but we're glad that we're
able to partner with them and still provide a great event for all of our residents. And
that, Mr. President, concludes my report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Director of Law Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law
Law Director Gareau:
No report, but just a quick comment.
• For those of you that did not see the announcement that Jack Boss had passed away on
April 9th. Anyone who's been around North Olmsted for any length of time, see Tom
Dobowski back there, nod his head, if you've been around North Olmsted for any length
of time, know that Jack Boss was always involved, and a wonderful guy. There's a little
video from, like the 1950s. Somebody had taken of the homecoming parade, and I've
seen it online or somebody had it here; and sure enough, you see the Boss Concrete and
the family business float come by with him riding on it, and that was in the 50s. The
guy's been around ever since then. He never left, and he's always been here. But
former, you know, Citizen of the Year, and no doubt deserved, very deserved. But he
passed away on the 91h, there's a service and visitation on April 16th, tomorrow. I just
wanted to pass it on. You know, Tom Hatfield a couple weeks ago, Jack Boss. These are
people that are, like, big... they weren't always the guys that were out in front, that
would get a lot of the glitz, you know, the announcement. But they were always
working. They were always in the background trying to do things. So I just wanted to
pass that along. Thank you.
04-15-25 Council Meeting Minutes - Page 2
