• On Tuesday, December 9, emergency dispatch services for Berea Police and Fire were
successfully transferred following the transfer of Bay Village Police in November, to the
North Olmsted Dispatch Center. These transitions further strengthen regional
collaboration and efficiency in emergency communications.
• Last weekend, the City of North Olmsted had eight trucks out clearing snow, Saturday
from 3 p.m. until 7 a.m., and Sunday, we had nine trucks and one bombardier, which as
Council Members may remember is the vehicle that clears the City's sidewalks. On
Lorain Road, working from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. During this shift, one of our snowplow
drivers, John Masterson, witnessed a domestic assault in progress in a parked vehicle.
He exited his truck and confronted the assailant, who then fled the scene. By putting
himself in harm's way to stop the attack and immediately contacting our Police
Department with detailed description, including the suspect's license plate number,
John's action directly led to an arrest. We thank John for his courage, quick thinking, and
commitment to helping to keep our community safe.
• The annual Shop with a Cop program was once again a tremendous success. This year,
six high school students were sponsored, with their younger siblings selected to
participate in Shop with a Cop at Dick's Sporting Goods, followed by pizza on Friday,
December 12th. In addition, the FOP Lodge 25 Shop with a Cop event on Saturday,
December 13th sponsored 97 children and raised approximately $36,000 to shop at
Walmart in North Olmsted. North Olmsted officers alone sponsored 28 children.
Participating agencies included Lakewood, Westlake, Olmsted Township, Bay Village,
Rocky River, and Fairview Park, with the event beginning with a parade from North
Olmsted High School. The North Olmsted Shop with a Cop program is coordinated by
Detective Margie Jones.
• In addition, City employees once again demonstrated their generosity through the
annual Adopt a Family initiative. A total of $950 was raised at the City's Annual
Employee Appreciation Lunch held at Springvale, helping to support local families during
the holiday season. We thank you to Georgia Wilder at the Oxcart Food Pantry for her
coordination.
• And finally, it is with sincere gratitude we thank Carrie Copfer for her dedicated service
as Finance Director, and Mary Ellen Hemann for her commitment to our community, as
Councilperson for Ward 4. Your leadership, professionalism, and dedication have made
a lasting impact on the City of North Olmsted. We are truly grateful for your time, care,
and expertise that you have brought to your roles, and we wish you both the very best
and continued success in your future endeavors. That, Mr. President, concludes my
report.
Council President Brossard:
Thank you, Mayor. Law Director Gareau, do you have a report this evening?
Law
Law Director Gareau:
Thank you, Mr. President, I do.
12-16-25 Council Meeting Minutes . Page 2
