<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003 - 59 <br />By: THE ENTIRE CI7Y CO UNCIL AND THE MAYOR <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE UNITED STATES AItMED <br />FORCES ENGAGED IN OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, FOR THE <br />BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO PROVIDE MILITARY SERVICE TO <br />THIS COUNTRY, WHO DESERVE OUR TOTAL SUPPORT AND <br />COMMTfMENT, WITH RESPECT AND RECOGNITION OF THEIR <br />SACRIFICE TO PROTECT THIS NATION, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the United States Armed Forces, a total force comprised of Active, National <br />Guard, and Reserve personnel, are now undertaking courageous and determined operations <br />against the forces of Saddam Hussein's regime; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor, North Olmsted City Council and the residents of North Olmsted <br />have the greatest pride in the members of the Armed Forces and strongly support them; and <br />WHEREAS, now, as our Forces have taken their orders to serve in any theater in the <br />world, thousands of soldiers in the Reserves stand ready to leave their jobs and families to take <br />on the task of national defense. Our military is trained, prepared, and willing-an asset to our <br />national security when we have been grievously attacked and threatened with greater attacks; and <br />WHEREAS, the United Nations Security Council, in Security Council Resolution 1441, <br />adopted on November 8, 2002, voted unanimously that Iraq ". .. will face serious consequences <br />as a result of its continued violations of its obligations" to disarm in accordance with all relevant <br />United Nations resolutions; and <br />WHEREAS, Iraq remains in material breach of the relevant United Nations resolutions; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the United States has assembled and deployed an allied military coalition to <br />apply pressure on Saddam Hussein to comply with the relevant United Nations resolutions; and <br />R'HEREAS, the United States Armed Forces and allied forces are performing their <br />missions with great courage and distinction in carrying out air, land, and sea attacks against Iraqi <br />military targets; and
