OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />DECEMBER 1, 1998 <br />Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gareau, Kasler, Limpert, <br />McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady <br />Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8:03 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />Mrs. Saringer announced that suspension of the rules would be asked on Ordinance <br />Nos. 98-97, 98-100, 98-136, 98-137, 98-142, 98-144 and 98-145. <br />Mr. Gareau made a motion to remove Ordinance No. 98-111 from the agenda. The <br />motion was seconded by Mr. O'Grady and unanimously passed. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of November 4, 1998 were approved as written. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor Musial: 1) The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on <br />Thursday, December 10, 1998. The choir from Spruce School will sing some special <br />holiday songs, and Santa Claus will arrive with a police escort. Everyone is invited to <br />attend. <br />2) Regarding Ohio House Bill 803, the Cuyahoga County Mayors and Managers <br />Association, which represents 57 communities, has sent a letter to Speaker of the House <br />Jo Ann Davidson expressing the members strong opposition to HB 803. The <br />communities are extremely concerned with the potential implication of this bill because it <br />would create a bookkeeping nightmare for local governments. It would have a <br />devastating impact on local government revenues. The ordinance that Council will <br />consider tonight will also make the legislature aware that our city is opposed to the <br />legislation. <br />3) Cablevision has notified the city that the rates are being increased. The broadcast <br />basic rate will increase to $8 from $7.04; family cable will be increased to $16.95 from <br />$14.91 and there will be some minor changes in converter charges. He has not had an <br />opportunity to determine whether the increases are legitimate under the agreement, and <br />he will keep Council informed. <br />
