MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />*~. <br />,,,~ OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />OCTOBER 5, 1999 <br />Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gareau, Kasler, Limpert, <br />McKay, Miller, Nashar, O'Grady <br />Also Present: Mayor Musial, Law Director Gareau, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />Council President Saringer called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, <br />5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in reciting the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of September 7, 1999 were approved as written. <br />The minutes of the special Council meeting of September 14, 1999 were approved as <br />written. <br />Mr. Nashar made a motion to remove Resolution 99-121 from the agenda. The motion <br />was seconded by Mr. O'Grady and unanimously approved. <br />President Saringer announced that Resolution 99-123 and Ordinance 99-138 would be <br />passed under suspension of the rule <br />REFORTS <br />Safety Director Jenkins gave an update on Y2K: Along with Personnel & Administrative <br />Director Popa and Data Processing Commissioner Hannum, he attended a meeting today <br />of the Cuyahoga County Division of Emergency Services. In addition, he has attended <br />other seminars/workshops on YZK. While Y2K is difficult to identify as to what kind of <br />problems there will or may be, we do have to run "if then" scenarios. The preparation for <br />those scenarios is what we are calling our contingency planning for Y2K readiness. The <br />city's internal Y2K Committee has invited guest speakers from utility companies and <br />other guest speakers to hear about their YZK readiness. North Olmsted will send a flyer <br />out to residents to help them prepare their own residences and neighborhoods for Y2K <br />possibilities. We believe that self-reliance is the best idea, and the city will not be <br />creating shelters. There are some vulnerable populations-elderly, special needs <br />populations-which the city is identifying and preparing to minister to their needs. <br />However, the general residents of North Olmsted should take it upon themselves to do <br />some preparation. The general tone of information that will go to residents will suggest <br />that being without light, heat, water or food can be mitigated by pre-planning and <br />thoughtfulness. People need to make connections with relatives and neighbors to help <br />
