NORTH OLMSTED CITY COUNCII.
MINUTES OF THE PUBLIC HEARING
OCTOBER 30, 2000
Present: Council President Saringer, Council Members Gazeau, Kesler, Limpert,
McKay, Miller, Nashaz, O'Grady
Also Present: Clerk of Council Semen
Council President Saringer called the public hearing to order at 8 p.m. in Council
Chambers, 5200 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
President Beringer advised that the public hearing was being held with regard to
Ordinance No. 99-83, an ordinance providing for the amendment of the Zone Map of the
City of North Olmsted by changing the hereinafter described pazcels of real property
located on Dewey Road, north of Lorain Road, from Single Family Residence District to
General Retail Business District. This legislation had its first reading in June of 1999 and
the Planning Commission denied it on July 13, 1999. The legislation will rezone three
parcels of land to General Retail Business use so that the owner of the parcels can use
them as a buffer and parking azea in conjunction with the redevelopment of the existing
automobile dealership.
A letter received from Mrs. William Jordan, 5115 Dover Center Road, was read: "To
whom it may concern: The board that approved these plans can be assured that the
residents on the west side of Dewey Road will not see the sunrise until high noon. They
propose a high mound of dirt with trees atop and/or a fence or both. That's not pleasant
to look at day after day. I remember when plans were submitted to residents on the east
side of Dover Center Road, south of Lorain Road. I attended many meetings and was
shown plans and was assured the front of the new City Hall would be beautifully
landscaped in front of the building and all parking in the rear. Drive by 5200 Dover
Center Road, what do you see? A pile of dirt and trees above that and where are the cars
parked? In front of the building. One of our Mayors thought Dewey Road was such a
nice, quiet, gentle type neighborhood, she should drive down Dewey Road and see the
pile of dirt, etc. on the east side, if this is approved. I am Mrs. William H. Jordan; I own
property on Dewey Road since 1948. My son Bill has resided there since he was three
years old. The plans for the east side of Dewey Road show a driveway into the car lot,
exactly across from the driveway on my property. One cannot back straight out, as there
is a fireplug at the northeast corner of my lot. We can do better to beautify our
neighborhoods, let's try. Sincerely, Mrs. William H. Jordan."
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
William H. Jordan, III, 5262 Dewey Road, distributed photographs taken from his
property, his neighbor's property and property down the street. He does not see any
advantages for him and other residents in this zoning change. The weakness he sees is a
~~a.:~~
..~,~
