MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />~;;- OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />DECEMBER 6, 2005 <br />Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau, <br />Miller, Nashar, Orlowski, Ryan, Tallon <br />Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of <br />Council Seman <br />President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200 <br />Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />The minutes of the Council meeting of November 15, 2005 were approved as written. <br />President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage <br />under suspension of the rules: second reading, Resolution No. 2005-162. <br />REPORTS <br />Mayor O'Grady: 1) The holiday tree lighting ceremony was held yesterday. <br />Participating in the festivities were the high school Pep Band, the Fourth Grade Orange <br />and Black Choir, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and elves. Toys-R-Us representatives attended <br />and donated two bicycles which were raffled off. Special thanks to secretary Annie <br />Kilbane for pulling the event together. Thanks to Council Members and other officials <br />who were able to attend. <br />2) The reorganization of city government is being initiated with legislation before <br />Council this evening. In his observation, some departments are unnecessarily large <br />where others are unnecessarily small. There is a disconnect in the ability to supervise. <br />This is a first step in an effort to be more efficient. <br />3) Attended a meeting today with the leadership team at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. The <br />number of flights over Runway 10, an east/west runway, has increased the number of <br />flights and aircra8 noise within our city. Suburban mayors hope to bring this issue to the <br />attention of the new administration in the City of Cleveland. <br />4) Attended a public discussion at Congressman's Kucinich's office in Lakewood with <br />regard to the automotive industry. It has been found that repeatedly the policies at the <br />national level in the United States are policies that make it more economical for multi- <br />national companies to do business outside our borders. When this happens, it is unfair <br />and disadvantages U. S. workers and it is unfair and disadvantages workers in the <br />countries where they have their new factories. A key question is universal health care. <br />Health care costs in the U. S. are distinctly out of proportion with anywhere else in the <br /> <br />
