MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MAY 20, 2008
Present: President of Council Kennedy, Council Members Barker, Gareau,
Dailey Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan
Also Present: Mayor O'Grady, Law Director Dubelko, Finance Director Copfer, Clerk of
Council Seman
President Kennedy called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers, 5200
Dover Center Road, North Olmsted, Ohio.
Members of the audience were invited to join Council in the recitation of the Pledge of
Allegiance.
The minutes of the Council meeting of May 6, 2008 were approved as written.
President Kennedy announced the following legislation would be considered for passage
under suspension of the rules: second reading, Ordinance 2008-44, Resolutions 2{308-46,
2008-47, Ordinance 2008-61, Resolutions 2008-63, 2008-66, 2007-76; first reading,
Resolution 2008-77, Ordinance 2008-81.
REPORTS
1) Representative from the Cleveland Chapter 82"d Airborne Division, Jim Terwilliger
and Del Beekman, came forward on behalf of the officers and soldiers of the 319' Field
Artillery, the unit the city of North Olmsted has adopted. The commanding officer asked
that they express the appreciation of the men and ladies of the unit for what the city of
North Olmsted has done, both in sending them gifts and goodies and the fact that they are
not forgotten-the people of North Olmsted are remembering them. They have flown a
flag over their base camp as an appreciation for this. Mr. Terwilliger and Mr. Beekman
presented the flag to Mayor O'Grady along with a certificate stating that they have flown
the flag over their firebase in Iraq for the people of North Olmsted, Ohio. Mayor
O'Grady expressed his thanks and noted a great deal of effort has gone into this project,
primarily by his Administrative Assistant Annie Kilbane who was integral in putting this
together. What we have done as a community has made a difference, not only with this
one battery but, since we sent so much, they shared with the entire battalion. This is an
on-going project, and in July a truck will deliver more packages to the rear unit for
shipment to Iraq from Hope Air Force Base.
2) Police Officers Memorial Day and Police Week was recently observed in the United
States to pay tribute to state, local and federal law enforcement officers. On May 15, our
city flags were flown at half-staff. When we talk about our heroes, remember the
hometown heroes, police and fire fighters who are out there every day for us.
