December 19, 1955, Mayor Endress presiding.
Roll Call: Present - Messrs Swanson, Strater, Taylor, Brown,
Beard and Oatess.
Absent - None. -
The Minutes of the special meeting of November 18, 1955, were read
to Council., Tt.was moved by Mr. Oatess, seconded by Mr. Taylor, that the
minutes of the special meeting be approved and passed as read.
Roll Ca11: ,Ayes - Messrs Swanson,Strater,Taylor,Broim,Beard & Oa•tess.
_ Nays - None.
Motion carried.
Minutes approved
• Mayor Nndress read a letter from Nir. George Worts, thanking Council
for their action in making him an Honora~ Fire Captain at the meeting of the
Fire Department on September 15th,. 1955. NTr. Worts expressed himself as feeling
deeply grateful for the honor and thanked Council for their action and the
people who wished hire so we11.
T~fa,yor I;ndress then asked for a report from the Safety and Service
Committee. Mr. Strater said that his committee had gone over the blasting
ordinance and they were rather confused. There was much in this ordinance
that pertained to engineering acts beyond their scope. He then advised gnat
he was turning this ordinance over to Mr. Bdelman to delete those parts not
pertaining to any function of village activities.
Mr. Strater then brought out the fact that our service department
was in need of a cinder spreader. He said that cinders and salt were being
shoveled and spread by hand and this was too slow and tedious for our present
traffic and congested conditions. Zt was the opinion of the Committee that
much more could be accomplished with a cinder spreader that would add to the
safety of our streets, and as such a machine could be purchased for around
X255.00, the committee recommended its purciia.se. Mr. Strater- said that a
super deluxe model could be obtained for ~$~.50.00, but could see no need for
-something as super as this. Mr. Sra~anson brought up the fact that we have
no place to keep any machinery obtained for the service department and
questioned whether or not we should tape steps to obtain a building first.
Council talked considerably on the matter but came to no conclusions and Mr.
Oatess, seconded by Mr. Swanson, then introduced Resolution No. 308 entitled,
rrA Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of a Salt and Cinder Spreader", which
resolution was read to Council. _
• Tt was moved by Mr, Taylor, seconded by Mr. beard, that the rules
of law requiring a resolution to be read on three separate occasions be
suspended.
1.
