MINIITES OF A MEETING OF THE COIINCIL
<br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
<br />JANUARY 6, 1959 - 8s11 P.M.
<br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; Ralph A. Hazelton, President of
<br />Council; Eddie Hixson, Wm. H. Kramer, Mary Alice Lynch, Bruce MacDonald,
<br />Francis O~Neill; James Wilson, and Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director.
<br />Absent: James Hinkel and Carl F. Haettich, Safety Director.
<br />Also present were C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; E. M. Christman, Clerk; Alex
<br />Kanareff, Engineer, and Alice Dobbins, Treasurer.
<br />The minutes of December 16th were read and approved as corrected.
<br />The Mayor reported on the activities and major accomplishments for the
<br />year 1958.#
<br />The Mayor recommended that the Streets, Sewers, Sidewalks and Ditches
<br />Committee of Council report on the installation of curbs, with concrete
<br />roads, throughout new developments in the City; and, also, Council take
<br />immediate action to coma up with a revised sewer plan proposal that might
<br />be acceptable by the entire community.
<br />The Mayor announced the Transportation Committee of Fairview Park requested
<br />a meeting with the City of North Olmsted Transportation Committee and
<br />arrangements have been made for a meeting to be held Thursday, January
<br />15th, 1959 at 8:00 P.M. at the North Olmsted City Hall.
<br />The Mayor referred to a letter directed to the Council by the Planning
<br />Commission for an opinion on the rezoning of portions of Lorain Road.
<br />The Service Director, in the absence of the Safety Director, reported
<br />activities of the Police Department and Fire Department for the month
<br />of December, 1958, and for the entire year; the Building Department had
<br />issued twelve permits for the month of December 1958, with an estimated
<br />valuation of $144,000.00; the activities of the Dog Warden for the month
<br />of December, 1958; and advised Harry W, Hird was promoted to Lieutenant
<br />in the Police Department, and Ray Bement to Lieutenant in the Fire Dep art-
<br />ment, effective January 6th, 1959•
<br />The Engineer advised he had received a proposal from Mr. Smith, who
<br />proposed 300 ft. of sewer on Wellesley, to be constructed at his own
<br />cost. This was referred to the Sewer Committee for further study. Mr.
<br />Hixson and the Engineer will meet to check the property, and Mr. Smith
<br />is to appear before Council at 8:00 P.M., January 13th.
<br />Mr. O'Neill stated the Youth Committee would meet the latter part of
<br />January.
<br />The President of Council stated that at the first meeting of each year
<br />Committees of Council are to be appointed and requested confirmation by
<br />Council for Committees to remain the same as the previous year. It was
<br />moved by Mr. O'Neill, seconded by Mr, Hixson, the Committees for the
<br />year 1959 be approved. "Yeas" Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, O~Neill,
<br />Wilson.
<br />Mr. Wilson, Chairman of the Finance Committee, reported that Committee
<br />had not had a formal meeting, but he had spol~n to other memisers of the
<br />Committee and recommended for Council's consideration and discussion in-
<br />creasing the salary of the Building Commissioner X400.00 per year,
<br />the Building Inspector $200.00 per year, Council members to $1,200.00
<br />per year, and President of Council to X1,400.00 per year.
<br />Ordinance No. 2791 was introduced by Mr. Wilson. An Ordinance amending
<br />Section 3 of Ordinance No. 2214 enacted October 4, 1955 entitled, "An
<br />ordinance determining salaries, wages and bonds of appointed officials
<br />and employees of the City of North Olmsted" as amended by Ordinance 2273
<br />enacted March 6, 1956, Ordinance 2357 enacted August 21, 1956, Ordinance
<br />2509 enacted July 15, 1957, Ordinance 2534 enacted August 20, 1957, and
<br />Ordinance No. 2673 enacted ,April 15, 1958, and declaring an emergency.
