<br />MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
<br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
<br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor, Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council,
<br />J. Hinkel, E. Iiixson, Mrs. Lynch, F. O~Neill, J. Wilson, and James F. Fotava,
<br />Safety-Service Director. Wm. Kramer, and Bruce MacDonald were absent.
<br />Also present were C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; E. M. Christman, Clerk, and Everett
<br />Dean, Engineer.
<br />The minutes of the regular meeting of Council January 7th, and the ad3ourned
<br />meeting of January 16th were approved as read.
<br />The Safety-Service Director reported the City had received bids for the
<br />installation of a traffic light at Whitethorne and Lorain Road, and since
<br />there was some discrepancy in the bidding and some of the bids needed more
<br />explanation, the Board of Control decided to re,jeet the bids and other steps
<br />will be taken.
<br />The Safety-Service Director stated that the crawler tractor with front end
<br />loader for the land fill was in sad need of repair, and estimates for repair
<br />and rental while it was being repaired were presented to Council. These
<br />were referred to the Streets and Finance Committees as a point committee for
<br />consideration.
<br />the Safety-Service Director presented the annual report of the North Olmsted
<br />Fire Department for the year 1957, and it was moved by Mr. Hinkel, seconded
<br />by Mrs. Lynch this report be accepted and approved. "Yeas" Hinkel, Hixson,
<br />Lynch, O~Neill, Wilson.
<br />The Engineer reported regarding a petition for a water main extension on
<br />Guilford Road. Inasmuch as the petition was not presented prior to October
<br />1st, 1956, they did not cheek it because it would not be accepted by the
<br />City of Cleveland.
<br />The Engineer also advised that slag is hard to get in the summertime, and
<br />suggested the city estimate its requirements for street resurfacing and get
<br />their bids in within the next month if possible. This was referred to the
<br />Streets and Finance Committees for further consideration.
<br />The Mayor submitted for appointment to the Planning Commission, Mr. There11
<br />Sipe, for a three-year term, and to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Mr. Norvil7.
<br />Snyder, for a three-year term. It was moved by Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr.
<br />O~Neill that the above appointments be approved. "Yeas" Hinkel, Hixson,
<br />Lynch, O~Aeill, Wilson.
<br />The Mayor read a communication from the Ohio Municipal League regarding the
<br />Harris Bill No. 6790, which he referred to the Utilities Committee for
<br />consideration and reaction.
<br />The Mayor advised that the footers for the Sears Roebuck Building would be
<br />poured this week at the new Shopping Center, which he was invited to attend,
<br />and asked the public to attend, if possible.
<br />The Mayor administered the Oath of Office to the following appointees:
<br />Harry Krohn, as a member of the Civil Service Commission.
<br />Therell Sipe, as a member of the Planning Commission.
<br />Norvill Snyder, as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
<br />Mr. Wilson reported the Finance and Budget Committee has not had its initial
<br />meeting, and upon completion of the Financial Report for the year 1957, he
<br />will recommend to the Co~mmi.ttee that each member of Council receive a con-
<br />densed report of allocations by departments for the current year.
<br />Mr. Minkel reported that the Safety Committee held its first meeting January
<br />15th, and its primary purpose was to discuss the duties of the Safety Director.
<br />It was also recommended a Stop Sign be put at the corner of John and Fitch
<br />Roads, and the Olmsted Township officials be contacted.
