<br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Naylor, Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council,
<br />J. ilinkel, t°1. Kramer, P~ss. Lynch, F?ruce MacDonald, F. O'I~Teill, J. Wilson,
<br />and James F. Votava, Safety-Service Director. Mr. Devine was absent.
<br />Also present were C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; E. I~i. Chrisi:,~nan, Clerk, and Everett
<br />Dean, Engineer.
<br />The Oath of Office for all City Officials was filed with the Clerk, with the
<br />exception of r~r. Devine.
<br />The Oath of Office was publicly administered January 1, 1953, by Judge Felix
<br />I~iatia to the following: Paul Gareau, Ralph Hazelton, Clarence Oviatt, Alice
<br />Dobbins, Francis O'Neill, Alice Lynch, James Hinkel, James ~~~1'ilson, and Carl
<br />Kessler. ?;b`. Kramer, and Bruce MacDonald were sworn in at another time.
<br />A motion. ti~as made by .Ir. i~iacDonald, seconded by hir. Kramer, that the bonds of
<br />the newly elected officials be approved. "Yeas" Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch,
<br />I?a.cDorald, 0' Neill, c:Tilson.
<br />The minutes of December 17th and December 30th were read and approved.
<br />Regarding the election of President pro tem, i.t was moved by kr. MacDonald,
<br />seconded by ~Zr. Hinkel that the President pro tem be elected. by majority
<br />vote. "Yeas" Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, O'Neill, frdilson.
<br />Nominations for President pro tem of Council were opened. Mr. ~~lilson nominated
<br />I~ir. Hinkel, and ~Trs. Lynch nominated r~ir. ~~?ilson. It was moved by ;~Ir. I~acDonal_d,
<br />secon~ed by Mrs. Lynch, nominations be closed. "Yeas" Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch,
<br />MacDonald, O'Neill, i~Tilson. A written ballot was taken, resulting ir. four
<br />votes in favor of UJilson, two votes for Mr. Hinkel.
<br />A motion was made by hir. Kramer, seconded by P~~Ir. MacDonald nominating Elroy i~.
<br />Christman, Clerk of Council, "Yeas" Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch., ri?acDonald, O'Neill,
<br />ti~7ilson. A motion was made by Mr. Kramer, seconded by Mr. Hinkel that the Clerk
<br />cast a unanimous ballot for Elroy Tai. Christman, as Clerk of Council. "Yeas"
<br />Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch, IYfacDonald, 0' Neill, 1,^Tilson.
<br />A communication was read from I~Tr. 1rrT. E. Devine stating his inability to perfo :~_
<br />his duties as Councilman in Yard I. Nominations were opened for this office.
<br />Nr. Kramer nominated Mr. Decker. Mr. t~+iilson nominated P~~r. Eddie G. Hixson.
<br />It was moved by i~x. I~ia.cDonald, seconded by i~Ir. Gtiilson, nominations be closed.
<br />"Yeas" Hinkel, Kramer, Lynch, i~acDonald, O'Neill, Wilson. A written ballot
<br />was taken, resulting in three votes for Mr. Decker, and three votes for P~tr.
<br />Hixson. Mr. Hazelton voted to break the tie in favor of tF~r~. Hixson.
<br />Mr. Eddie G. Hixson, from the audience, submitted his resignation from the
<br />Zoning Board of appeals, effective immediately, which was accepted by the
<br />Mayor. Mr. Oviatt administered the Oath of Office to iVir. Hixson as Councilman
<br />Ward No. 1.
<br />The President of Council appointed the Committees of Council as follows:
