<br />First order of bustness was a public hearing on Ordinance 64-63. An ordinance ame.nding
<br />the Zone Map 4dogted as part of Ordinance No. 62-33 (known as the Zoning Ordinance of
<br />the C}ty of North Olmsted, by changing the designation thereon of certain lands hereizl
<br />after described by caetes and bounds from its ;present designati.on thereon as Cl.ass B
<br />Residencs District to that of General Retail ;Business District,
<br />A petition from the re$idents of liewey Road objecting to the prc.?gosed rezoniiig was prr,
<br />sented by Mr. I,ee Stuart, Dewey Road, and rea<i by the Clerk.
<br />Mr, John Thomson, of Lorain Road, who is interested in building on the property in
<br />quegtipn, stated that the request for busines.: zoning was for construction of an
<br />office and medical building, and presented drFiwings of the proposed building.
<br />Various objpctions were heard from individual residents of Dewey, that it is a narrow,
<br />dead-end street, on which ttaffic is already ai problem, and entry into Lorain Road be-
<br />izig di€f}.cult; that there is ample land available already zoned for business elsewhere;
<br />that thefie is no guarantee that the property would be used for a building as described,
<br />once the rezoning was effected.
<br />After a11 comments were heard, the hearing was adjourned. Council will vote on the
<br />question atr their next meeting.
<br />Roll was then called for the regular council meeting.
<br />Minutes of the last meeting were approved as corrected.
<br />Mayor Christman proclaimed the month of May as Clean-up, Paint-up, Fix-up Month.
<br />The Mayor reported he and Law Director Kitchen met with officials of the City of Cleveland
<br />fox a discusstan of a possible new water contr:3ct. The Mayor requested that a meeting
<br />now be Arranged with Council for further discussion on this contract.
<br />Engineer Labp$ reported he has made an investigation as to possible cost of the new
<br />library. He recotamended Council 8uthorize him to draw preliminary plans, showing site
<br />plan, floor plaq, etc,, and an estimate of cost:s. A check on cost per square foot of
<br />construction qf various ather libraries in the area indicates a cost of about $23 a
<br />squar.e foot as average. Using this figure, thE: engineer's rough estimate of the cost
<br />was someWhere between $360,000 and $543,000, bsr, Labas suggested before Council puts
<br />aparticular figure on the ballot that they authorixe preliminary plans be drawn £or a better,
<br />estimate of ?he cost. Also the engineer requested that Council authorize the Clerk tn
<br />send a letter to Mr. Lewis C, Naylor, County Li.brarian, requesting a report on the
<br />feasibilitp of the building, a necessary procedure befare the County can participate.
<br />Mrs. Hodgins, Chairman of the Safety Committee, reported that they recommend legislati.on
<br />be passed imposing: a No Parking Ban on Lorain Road f rom the County Line east to Dewey.
