• • ,
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMST$D
DECEMBEkt 21, 1976
Present: President Dewey Limpert, Councilmen Boehmer, Saringer, Sharpe, West,
Wilamosky.
Also present: Mayor Ralph Christman, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finance Director
William Gerlach, Safety Director Raymond Carnahan, Service Director
Henry Caster, Gity Engieeer J. Howard Childs, Clerk of Council Nora Hill.
Absent: Councilmen Beaty and Coggin.
Meeting was called to order by President Limpert at 8:00 P.M.
President Limpert introduced Cub Scout Troop 332 from St. Richards; Council and
Administration recognized same.
Mayor Christman reported: 1) a meeting has been scheduled by the County and the
City of North Olmsted for January 25th, 7:30 P.M., in the High School C~tfetorium,
for the purpose of hearing residents' ideas on how Community Block Grant Fund
manias should be used. Mayor e~slained this is one of two meetings that will be
sponsored for this area and then we will have to have our own hearing in our City
alone;
2) the City received a patent for the Treatment Plant burner which Engineer Howard
Childs invented;
3) City Hall offices will be cloaed on Friday, Decembex 24th and Friday, December
31st, because of Christmas Day and New Year's Day falling on Saturday;
/+) would like to request that Council review the Committee Report of November 16th
and its decision not to grant consent to the County Engi~er for improving Stearns
Read between the southerly limit of I-x+80 and the North Olmsted municipal boundary.
Have had the Engineering Dept. prepare a map and it would leave a section in North
Olmsted on the east side of Stearns Rd. of approximately 350 ft. and on the west
side a section of approximately 1500 ft. that would be a two-lane road in between
the four lane improvement that the County would make in I-480. Thinks this is
important that Council as a Whale consider the question because there could be a
serious traffic problem after both of those projects are finished and request this
be reviewed by Council as a Whole;
5) the Mayor of Cleveland has announced that he is having a senior citizen's New
Year's Rare Party at the Cleveland Convention Center on December 31st, from 1:00 P.M.
to 4:00 P.M., and is inviting all senior citizens 60 years or older - not just
Clevelanders - to share in this fun;
6) have received a petition from the Park West Homeowners Association for a traffic
light at Lorain Rd. and West View, as well as other improvements, and will submit
sae to the Safety Director for his review. Petition is also addressed to Council;
7) in cooperation with the Auto Club and other area Mayors - are proclaiming
"First a Friend and then a Host" for the partying around Christmas Time so that the
involvement in traffic accidents caused by alcohol can be lessened;
81 would like to recommend for reappointment the following: Mr. William Gilbert
to the Board of Building Code Appeals; Mr. Clark Olson to the Board of Zoning Appeals;
Mr. Charles Miner to the Advisory Board of Dept. of Human Resources, and Mr.
brad Evanoff to Planning Commission. With the exception of Mr. Gilbert - the
oit~fiers have served approximately a year and have indicated a desire to continue
---° to serve.
President Limpert referxed reappointments to Mr. Baehmer, Chairman Legislation
Committee.
