Council and Administration recognized the scouts.
Minutes of Council Meeting of May 2, 1978, were approved as read.
Mayor Swietyniowski reported: 1} submitted far Council approval the follot~ing
three appointments to the Board of Zoning Appeals: Mr. Louis ~rvath to replace
Mr. William Pratti, for a new five year term ending 12/3i/82; Mr. Earl DaYoto to
fill unexpired term of Mr. Raymond Ackley, term ending 12131/79; Mr. John D.
Fairfield to fill unexpired term of Mr. Kenneth Huntington, term ending 12/3l/80.
Would appreciate immediate attention to this matter since presently there are only
three members on the Board and will soon be down to two, which is fewer than needed
for a quorum. These three appointments will give us a full fi r Boar@;
2) Today is Senior Citizen's Day and would like to personally congratulate each
and every senior citizen in North Olmsted on this special occasion. We are all
undoubtedly aware of the growing impact of seniors on every aspect of life in
our community and this is something to be proud of. They are all deserving of
our commendation;
3) Yesterday, met with Chief Taylor, Detective Dellapasta, Administrative Assistant
Mary Slama, Safety Director Petra, Human Resources Director Don Capelaad attd YDP
Coordinator Hillary Morgan, in a second session regarding a possible resubm#:sson
of a grant application to the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. We are
narrowing the possibilities down to a request for salary for a pollee officer who
would function in several ways - he would conduct a course of study in the schools.
He would be the contact person between the child, the home, the police department,
and Hunan Resources YDP program. He would perform some counselling duties. We
will put these ideas into concrete form within the next few days and present them
soon to school personnel, who have already met with us to share ideas. The Board
of Education has passed a resolution stating their interest in a combined venture
of this sort. Prior to actually writing the grant, all interested parties will get
together to go over the final proposal. All of this must be accomplished between
June 1 and June 30.
Service Director Corrigan reported: 1) in Caucus tonight Council received in
packet form various sheets of data and a summary in compari$on. Would like to
amplify what the particular data covers, the reason behind it and why the Service
Director thinks it is ia~ortant that Council be made aware of what is taking place
currently in the Service Department relative to trash pickup in the City. As of
May 1st, the crews started picking up at 7 a. m. based upon daylight savings. In
can unction with that the Service Director redesigned soe~ of the garbage pickup
routes to provide for more uniform pickups. Council is in receipt of that s+~aary:
the average stop per truck per day is approximately 400 stops for a three m~ crew
.. _g
