'1 <br />MINUTES OF T~iE 1lEBTING OF THB COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />2!~ARCH 7, 1978 <br />Present: President Dewey Lia~srt, Councilmen Beaty, Boehmer, Logan, Petrigac, <br />Saringer, Sharpe, Wlamosky. <br />Also present: Mayor Robert Swietynio~-ski, Law Director Michael Gareau, Fierce <br />Director Robert Brocl~ran, Safety Director Eugeae Petra, Service Director <br />Joseph Corrigaa, City engineer &mald ZuraWSki, Clerk of Council Nora Hill. <br />Meeting was called to order by President Limpert at 8:00 P.M. <br />Minutes of Council Meeting of February 21, 1978, were approved as read. <br />Mayor Swiety^iowski reported: 1) recommends re-appointment of Mr. James Patton <br />to a second term on the Board of Building Cads Appeals, term ending 1$f31/$2 <br />2) would like to request that Cot~cil act ima~ediateiq on the rs-appointment of <br />Lois Van Aa~kem to the Landmarks Commission for a second term ending 12/31/79; <br />3) rec s appointment of Mr. ~iarasx Obman to the vacancy on Planning Commission <br />left by resignation of Mr. Zuraa-sici, term ending 12/31/79; <br />4) the recent trip to Washington by Service Director Corrigan and the Mayor was <br />worthwhile. Along with four other local l~yorsy attended a one-day briefing on <br />the availabilitq of federal funds and an planation of federatl programs. The <br />briefing was arranged by our Cc~grsasaaan, Ronald l~ttl, and iacluded representatives <br />from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Labor, the <br />Eavironmentai Protection A~ncy, the Departm®nt of Transportation, and the Law <br />Enforc~amett Assistance Arbeinistration. In addition, met with Senators Glenn and <br />Metaenbaum. The Mayor and Service Director presented Congressman Mottl with a <br />list of items far which ws are sse1 funding, for his re^v~iew, in addition to <br />categories of federal grants which we feel might qualify us for dollars in these <br />project areas. <br />Service Director Corrigan reported: 1) as+plified Mayor's co~nians~, i.e.•,. our <br />present Zim~pro system is bs Rter than many others, therefore, t~s ere not likely to <br />qualify for EPA dollars for new engineering or capital equipment. We must explore <br />other sources. <br />City Engineer Zura~rski reported: 1) have received communication from County <br />Engineer Stackhouss sending the City reports on the conditions of various bridges <br />and culverts within the City. Will look at two of them in particular which our <br />City maiataias and determine whether we may have to place some load limit signs <br />on the structures; this, of course, would have to be through Council; <br />2) thanked Mrs. Zipp for punch syrup. <br />Safety Director Petre reported: 1) the Fire Department annual report has recently <br />been published and report indicates that in 1477 they answered, 1,707 alarms of <br />fire, emergency rescue, and calls of a miscellaneous nature. This is an increase <br />of 112 runs over 1976. The 326 fire responses accounted for an estimated loss of <br />$484,000; <br />2) the Complex just completed a very successful weekend hosting the State Squirt <br />Hockey Tournament. The North 0].msted Squirts finished second in the State and <br />the final game was attended by approximately 100 people; <br /> <br />
