OF THE FETING OP THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF N©RTH OLMSTED <br />FEBRUARY 2l, 1978 <br />Present: President Dewey Limpert, Councilman Beaty, Boehmer, Logan, Petrigac, <br />Beringer, Sharpe, Wilamoskq. <br />Also present: Mayor Robert Swist}rniowski, Law IIireector Michael Gareau, Safety <br />Director Eugene Petra, Serv3,ce Director Joseph Corrigan, City <br />Engineer Ronaxl 2urawski, Clerk of Council Nora Hill. <br />Meeting was called to order bq President Limpert at 8:00 P.M. <br />Minutes of Council Meeting of Feb:uary 7, 1978, were approved as read. <br />Mayor Swietgniowski reported: 1) announced resignation of Mr. Kenneth Huntington <br />from. Board of Zoning Appeals, effective February 14, 1978; <br />2) Council is in receipt of resume of Mr. Warner Ohman, 26862 Hyannis Port Drive, <br />who is receded to the Planning Commission. Would like to delay any action o~n <br />this appointspant until next Council Meetiaag because there are two gentlemen who <br />are being c+sdtsidarecl. for the opening nn Planning Commission; <br />3) would like to recoa~end to Council for acceptance this evening by Council the <br />renewal of appointment of Loia Van Auicen to the Landmarks Commission for a two <br />gear term a~iiing 12/31/79; <br />4) the Ar~nrf~tiatration is verq concerged about the current energy crisis and the <br />potential sfi'ects it may have. Have sent a press release to the media and letters <br />to the Chaasber of Comorsrce, Great Northern Shopping Center Management, public and <br />parochiA schools, homet-aners' and civic groups askia~g for cuxtailment of electrical <br />power. We hays contacted CEI a;ad ha~re been told there are no plans to reduce the <br />use of street lighting at this time. For our own part, there is much we can do. <br />In the coming days, we will be checking back with some of these groups to see what <br />plans have been made to cut down on use of interior and exterior lighting and heat. <br />In the meantime, we ask for ~veryone's cooperation. The heat has been turned down <br />in Citq Hs3.l buildings to 65 , and we are trging to beep lighting dawn as much as <br />possible. Would appreciate support from the news media along these lines; <br />5) on February 28th, the T~ayor and Service Director Corrigu- will be going to <br />Washington, D.C., far the purpose of meeting with Senators Glenn and Metzenbaum <br />and Congressman Mottl, to explore the possible funding for a new serv~.ce garage. <br />In addition, plans to check the current status of an LEAH gran: application through <br />the Police Department for $88,000 to fund a communications office. This grant has <br />been delayed for a period of two years or more and we are diligently pursuing it. <br />Chances look reasonably good and will perhaps have more to report at next Council <br />Meeting. White in liashiagton will look into some other areas of funding also. Is <br />working an a list of possibilities and Mayor explained same. <br />Service Director Corrigan referred to upcoming Washington. trip and reported the <br />Service Department is in prtaeess of compiling certain data that will be beneficial <br />in making presentation for the needs of a service facility, etc. <br />Safety Director Petra reported: 1) the North Olmsted Soccer Organization have <br />announced their plans far the 2nd annual International Soccer Touraament tQ be <br />held the first week in July. It was a huge success last year and the responses <br />to the many invitations are coming in at a rapid fire rate.
