Limpert, Councilmen Beaty, Boeh~r, Logan, Petrigac, <br />Saringer, Sharpe, Wilamosky. <br />Also present: Mayor Robert Swietyniawski, Law Director Michael Gareau, Finaance <br />Director Robert Brock, 3afsfiq Director Eugene Petre, Service Director <br />3oseph Corrigan, City 8ngineex ltanald 2urawski, Clerk of Council Nora Hill. <br />Meeting was called to order by President Limpert at 8:00 P.M. <br />Minutes of Council Meeting of Januarp 3, 1978, were approved as read. <br />Mayor Swietyniowski repotted: l) last Thursday, Safety Director Gene Petre, <br />Administrative Assistant Mary Slaema, Chief of Po~.ice Marian Taylox, and the <br />Mayox visited the Bay Villages Police Da~a~rt~nt, talked with Chief Peter Gray <br />about the Bay Village Block 'Watch P~tagxan. i"hs nay program is primarily a <br />citizen band radio effort. North Olmsted is interested in this mainly because <br />this Summer would like to try and put canes program into effect. We want to be <br />very cautious on the methods that we use. Police Chief Taylor has case definitely <br />good ideas an the pragra~n incorporatiateg a-ua~.liary police. tie axe going to try and <br />combine some of the efforts that are used in several of the sties into a <br />program that we can establish. Are also leaking for federal. funds - tanked to <br />Congressman Maul today and there is going to be an effort on his part to get fextds <br />for our City. Should know by the middle of February regarding foods that we may <br />be able to receive - emoting to $6g,OtItI. Hope:~ully we can benefit; <br />2) are in r~iceipt of a lettex dated January 6, 1978, from the Ohio Public Interest <br />Campaign, a citizen lobby group statewide Mich will be coming iota North Olmsted <br />from February 16 to March 30 to collect may axed signatures door to door from <br />our residents to fund their labbyin$ effort.. It should be noted that there is no <br />legal pay to prevent such a group from gaimg to the doors of residents and collecting <br />money. Have advised Mr. David McCann via lettex that we do not condone ar suppcsrt <br />this effort: have expressed our concern that residents would not appreciate befog <br />contacted by a stranger at the door after dark, as the hours for this canvass ale <br />scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m. Mayor further advised him that his group was to <br />refrain from telling any pexson contacted that the effort was supported by the <br />City. The group will register canvassers with the Police Depaxtment before they <br />begin and will have i.d. cards; <br />3) received letter of resignation €ram Mr. Frank Lavelle this week from Board of <br />Building Gode Appeals and recomosends appaintsssnt of Mr. Thomas Koberna to fill <br />that vacancy. Council is in receipt of reams of Mr. Roberna and the Mayor would <br />like to see that appointment take place this evening -- term to expire 1.2131184; <br />4) recommends appoatmeaat of Mrs. Maxus Case to the Architectural Review Board to <br />fill unexpired term of Mrs. Dolores td~xsss. Council is in receipt of resume of <br />Mre. Case - mast of Cau~t-cil knows I~cs. Cage laesrsonally and knows her qualifications. <br />Would appreciate Council action on this app~aittt this evening; <br />S) recommends the appaia~tm~t of Mr. Steven Schecte~r to the xks Commisaian. <br />Council is in rasceipt of resuoe atad would appreciate Council action by next meeting; <br />6) Those wishing to take the exa~pination far fir+aaa in North .Orated must have <br />their applications returned to the North Olmsted Civil Commission, Box 48, North <br />~~ Olmsted, Ohia, no later than tomorrow; <br />?) Inasmuch as the Mayor was Gounc3.l's agpoi~atee tea the Recreation Go~esission, <br />Mayor wishes to x~ecammatx-d Mr. Jahn. ~elanay to fill that vacancy.
