(b) The operator of a vehicle or trackless trolley may overtake and, allowing <br />sufficient clearance, pass another vehicle or trackless trolley proceeding in the same <br />direction either upon the left or upon the right on a street with ,unobstructed pavement <br />of sufficient width whenever such street has been divided into four or more clearly <br />marked lanes for moving traffic, or whenever within the City of Lakewood traffic is <br />moving in two or more substantially continuous lines in the same direction, provided <br />such movement can be made in safety° No person shall drive off the pavement of the <br />street in overtaking or passing on the right~ <br /> <br /> Section 23. No vehicle or trackless trolley shall be driven to the left of the <br />center or center line of the street in overtaking and passing traffic proceeding in <br />the same' direction unless such left side is clearly visible and is free of cncoming <br />traffic for a sufficient distance ahead to permit such overtaking and passing to be <br />completely made without interfering with the safe operation of any traffic approaching <br />from the opposite direction or any traffic overtaken. <br /> <br /> Section 24. (a) No vehicle or trackless trolley shall, in overtaking and pass- <br />ing traffic, or at any other time, be driven to the left of the center or center line <br />of the street under the following conditions: <br /> <br /> 1. When approaching the crest of a grade or upon a curve in the street, where <br />the operator~ s view is obstructed within such a distance as to create a hazard in the <br />event traffic might approach from the opposite direction; <br /> <br /> 2, When the view is obstrUcted upon apprgaching any bridge, viaduct, or tunnel; <br /> <br /> 3~ When approaching within one hundred feet of or traversing any intersection <br />or railroad grade crossing~ <br /> <br /> (b) The foregoing l~m~tations shall not apply upon a one-way street or upon a <br />street where traffic is lawfully directed to be driven to the left sider <br /> <br /> Section 25. (a) The Director of Public Safety may designate an~ street for one- <br />way traffic and shall erect appropriate signs giving notice thereof~ <br /> <br /> (b) UPon a street designated and sign-posted for one-way traffic a vehicle shall <br />be driVen only in the direction designated. <br /> <br /> (c) A vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island shall be driven only to the <br />right cf such islande <br /> <br /> Section 26o Whenever any street has been divided into three or more clearly <br />marked lanes for traffic, or wherever within the City of Imkewood traffic is lawfully <br />moving in two or more substantially continuous lines in the same direction, the following <br />rules, in addition to all others consistent herewith, shall apply; <br /> <br /> (a) A vehicle or trackless trolley shall be driven as nearly as practicable en- <br />tirelywithin a single lane or line of traffic and shall not be movedfrom such lane <br />or line until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with <br />safetye <br /> <br /> (b) Upon a street which is divided into three lanes a vehicle or trackless <br />trolley shall not be driven in the center lane except when overtaking and passing <br />another vehicle or trackless trolley where the street is clearly visible and such center <br />lane is clear of traffic within a safe distance, or in preparation for a left turn or <br />where such center lane is at the time allocated exclusively to traffic moving in the <br />direction the vehicle or trackless trolley is proceeding and is sign-posted to give <br />notice of such allocation. <br /> <br /> (c) The Director of Public Safety may erect signs directing slow-moving traffic <br />to use a designated lane or allocating specified lanes to traffic moving in the same <br />direction and drivers of vehicles and trackless trolleys shall obey the directions of <br />every such sign~ <br /> <br /> Section 27. The operator of a motor vehicle, street car or trackless trolley <br />shall not follow another vehicle, street car or trackless trolley more closely than <br />is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such vehicle, street car <br />or trackless trolley, and the traffic upon and the condition of the street. <br /> <br /> <br />
