" · <br /> <br />(c) Classification by Structural Type. <br /> <br />(1) .C_a_n_oj?y.__S.i_gn_, means a sign attached to the soffit or <br /> fascia of a canopy, of a covered entrance or walkway~ <br /> or to a pern:anent awning or marquee. <br /> <br />(2) G_!'_o_und____.S_i_gL~, means a freestanding sign which has'a <br /> supporting base designed as an integral part of the <br /> sig~J and resting totally or primarily on tl~e ground. <br /> <br />(3) Pole Si_~!!, means a sign which is supported whollY-by a <br /> pole or poles and designed so as to permit pedestrian <br /> or vehicular traffic thereunder. <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />Portable Si(y_~, means a sign which is designed to be <br />portable and is not permanently attached to any part <br />of a building. <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />_P~_'.gjecting_S_i_gg_, means a .sign erected On the outside <br />wall of a building and wilich projects out at an angle <br />therefrcm~. <br /> <br />(6) Roof Sig)_~, means a sign erected upon and completely over <br /> the roof of any building. <br /> <br />(7) <br /> <br />Wall Sicj._n., means a sign integral with the exterior <br />face of an exterior wall of a building, or attached <br />to the wall or parallel with the wall and projecting <br />not more tha)~ twelve inches therefrom. <br /> <br />(8) <br /> <br />Hindow Sig_n, means a sign painted, attached or affixed <br />to the interior or exterior surface of windows or <br />doors of a building. <br /> <br />HEASUREi.1ENT STANDARDS. <br /> <br />The size of signs is regulated in this Code by relatin9 the gross area <br />of signs to the building or use of a.lot, or to the size of the <br />building unit to which the sign is accessory. <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />The gross area of signs for a building Or use shall include <br />all permanent surfaces visible from a public way and shall be <br />measured as,follows: <br /> <br />(I) <br /> <br />The area of the surface, or surface, s of an opaque <br />or translucent panel used or intended for displaying <br />a message; <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />The area within ti~e smallest rectangle enclosing a <br />siUn cc, Hposecl of letters or characCers which are <br />individually att. ached to a building wall or other <br />structural element not designed as a panel; plus <br /> <br /> <br />
