1329.05 <br /> <br />(3) The area of permanent window and door signs. <br /> <br />(bi <br /> <br />Whenever the gross area of the signs are related to the size <br />of the building or lot: <br /> <br />Tile frontage of a building shall be the width of the <br />facade ef the building, business, office, or industrial <br />unit which faces the principal street, or the faca'de <br />c'.ontai~g,~ the main en%rance of a business office, or <br />i~dustri a~ building. <br /> <br />(c) <br /> <br />Buildings or lots having fro~)tage on a second street or <br />a secondary e~rance to a parking area may be permitted <br />addit(onal signs along such secondary streets which <br />shall, however, not exceed {25} percent of.the area of <br />the signs pemitted along the main facades. <br /> <br />DESIGN STANDARDS. <br /> <br />Signs, as permitted in all use districts, shall be designed to be <br />compatible in character and style with regard to materials, color <br />and size of the building, other signs designed or located on the <br />same building, and other signs on adjoining buildings in order ltd <br />produce an overall unified effect, and in accordance with the <br />standards set forth in this section. Signs will be reviewed with <br />respect to each of the provisions of this section and will require <br />approval by the Board of Building Standards. <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />Continuity. Signs shall be considered in relationship tO <br />their surrounding environment and, if seen in series, <br />should have a continuity of design. <br /> <br />(bi <br /> <br />Style and Color. The style of a sign shall be generally <br />consistent throughout the particular building or block <br />involved; the color of signs shall be a component of <br />the color of the building facade and the total number of <br />colors on a sign shall be limited to four. <br /> <br />(c) <br /> <br />Letterin9. The lettering on a sign shall be large enough <br />to be easily read, but not overly large or out of scale <br />with the building upon which it is placed. An excessive <br />amount of information on signs, where visual clutter <br />could create a potential safety hazard to motohists or <br />pedestrians, shall not be permitted. <br /> <br />(d) <br /> <br />Materials. Signs shall be fabricated on and of materials <br />which are of good quality, good durability and c~plementary <br />to the building of which they become part. When non- <br />combustible outdoor signs or display structures are <br />required by this Code, all parts including the supporting <br />structure shall be of noncm~bustible material; provided, <br />however, that wood, approved plaster, or other material <br />not more ce~bustible than wood or approved plastic shall <br />be pen~itted in the following locations: <br /> <br />For small ornamental moldings, cappings, nailing <br />strips, individual letters, symbols, figures and <br />insignia. <br /> <br /> the face of a sign, p~-ovided that the aggregate <br />ar~a of such facing for any sign shall not exceed <br /> square feet. <br /> <br /> <br />
