<br />Fourth annual "Pillars of Medicine" awards. In December, we presented these most prestigious awards to <br />William Fayen, MD, Joseph Lydon, MD, and Oliver Eitzen, MD (posthumously). These awards honor our <br />retired physicians who have exhibited a lifetime of exemplary commitroent to medicine, Lakewood Hospi- <br />tal and the community. <br /> <br />Hospital Awards and Recognition <br /> <br />Regional Hospitals Named Best Employer Again. For the second time, Cleveland Clinic and all of its <br />regional hospitals have been named a "best place to work" and are included on the North Coast 99 List of <br />Great Workplaces in Northeast Ohio. This is the fourth year that Lakewood Hospital has made the list. <br /> <br />Accreditations and Lieensures. Our Primary Care Stroke Center was recertified by the Joint Commission, <br />the highest body governing healthcare. The Lakewood Rehabilitation Unit has been awarded a three-year <br />re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The Ohio Department <br />of Health completed a review of the Lakewood Behavioral Health Service, with the survey resulting in <br />full licensure. <br /> <br />2007 Friends of Education Award. The National School Public Relations Association of Ohio awarded <br />Lakewood Hospital the prestigious 2007 Friends of Education Award "for its continued commitment to <br />stodents, education and the community." <br />'" <br />Lakewood Recognized by HealthGrades. Lakewood has been recognized with multiple 2008 HealthGrades <br />awards for clinical excellence and specialty care. Lakewood will receive the award for "c1inicaLexcellence," <br />as a "distinguished hospital," and for "specialty excellence" in stroke care and pulmonary care. <br /> <br />Gifts and Fundraising <br /> <br />Leadership Gift. A highlight of the October centennial celebration was the announcement of a gift by the <br />Lakewood Hospital Foundation (LHF). When presenting, LHF President Brian King said: "We are pleased <br />to announce at this centennial gala that Lakewood Hospital Foundation has offered a leadership gift of up <br />to $5 million, subject to the project size and scope, to aid Lakewood Hospital in its efforts to renew and <br />recreate the hospital facility as well as redefine its services to more effectively serve this great community. <br />The LHF has been an active partner in the planning process and knows plans remain conceptoal at this <br />time. This leadership gift is subject to LHF approval of the final plan. The LHF recognizes this is a bold <br />undertaking. We strongly believe it is a necessary step in securing the futore provision of health care ser- <br />vices to meet the health and wellness needs of our West Shore community members." <br /> <br />Starry Night. Lakewood Hospital held the second annual "Starry Night" banqùet raising $75,000 for the <br />Lakewood Hospital Diabetes Center and the Lakewood Arts Festival scholarship fund. <br /> <br />Hats Off! Lakewood Hospital held its fifth annual "Hats Off to Nursing!" gala event and raised an estimat- <br />ed $38,000 for the nursing education fund. <br /> <br />As you can see, the second half of 2007 was filled with activity. This year also marked 10 years since the <br />Cleveland Clinic health system and Lakewood Hospital entered into a partoership. In that year of 1997, we <br />made several important promises to the community. I invite you to take a moment to read the "Promises <br />Made.
