Councilmembers made personal remarks regarding Vice President Anderson and his time on Council, noting his fair-mindedness, expertise, integrity, consistency, and preparation, among other attributes. On the motion: All members voted in favor. Motion passed. 30. RESOLUTION 2019-17 - A RESOLUTION to commend Meghan F. George for her exemplary public service as a member of Lakewood City Council. (pg. 91) Motion by President O'Leary, seconded by Vice President Anderson to adopt Resolution 2019-17. At the request of President O'Leary, and without objection, the Clerk read Resolution 2019- 17 into the record. Councilmembers made personal remarks regarding Councilmember George and her time on Council, expressing support and confidence in her as she takes office as Mayor. Councilmember George thanked councilmembers, staff, the Mayor and Directors. She expressed that it has been a great honor to serve as a councilmember and that she will direct all her energy toward her role as Mayor. On the motion: All members voted in favor. Motion passed. 31. RESOLUTION 2019-18 - A RESOLUTION to commend Mayor Michael P. Summers for his exemplary public service as Mayor of Lakewood. (pg. 92) Motion by President O'Leary, seconded by Vice President Anderson to adopt Resolution 2019-18. At the request of President O'Leary, and without objection, the Clerk read Resolution 2019- 18 into the record. Mayor Summers reflected on some of his key experiences as Mayor. He praised the commitment and leadership of councilmembers, directors, and an engaged public. He reflected on the challenges and rewards of public service and the character of Lakewood. Councilmembers all made personal remarks regarding Mayor Summers and his time in service, noting his visionary leadership, open-door policy, hands-on approach, intellectual curiosity about the challenges facing Lakewood, courage to address big issues, and wisdom.
