Public Safety Committee Report regarding meeting held June 27, 2022.
Councilmember Baker delivered the following oral report:
Last week we met to discuss the communication from the administration about dispatch
regionalization, funding, and keeping it local. We had a robust discussion. The mayor kicked it
off with some comments about pending state laws and the current state of dispatch in
Lakewood. We had some updates from Representative Skindell on some pending legislation in
the Statehouse, but it was determined through the committee process that it really wasn't a state
law issue. It sounds like nothing will change in the near term, and this is
something we will need to keep an eye on moving forward. Lastly, we made a motion to receive
and file the communication.
Motion by President Litten, seconded by Vice President Kepple to receive and file the oral
report. All in favor. Motion passed.
4. Housing, Planning & Development Committee Report regarding meetings held June 27,
2022 and July 5, 2022.
Councilmember Bullock delivered the following oral report:
The committee met tonight and on June 27h. On June 27h we began a discussion on
affordable housing, which is an area of increasing focus for many of us in the city and many
residents, as the home prices increase in Lakewood, which is welcome news to property owners
who have had their homes for decades. However, it is a gift with a double edge because it may
increase your property taxes and for those looking to move into a first home or sell our current
home to move somewhere else are also dealing with price increases. The focus of the discussion
centered on how the city could take any policy actions or partner with non-profit partners to
preserve or expand affordable housing supply in Lakewood, so it could be a community of
2
