Resolution 2022-59 adopted as substituted.
8. Report from Public Works & Sustainability Committee meeting held January 9, 2023.
Councilmember Rader delivered the following oral report:
We had a great meeting with one item on the docket for discussion which was a report from the
Tree Advisory and Education Board. As part of their charge, they are to give a report to Council
every so often, I believe every year. They did it in spectacular fashion, we could've spent two
hours. We were also graced with our brand-new Public Works Director who gave a report as
well on all the work that was done on the City's side and the collaboration with the Tree
Education and Advisory Board. There were several recommendations that were made. Some of
them are in progress, such as hiring an urban forester. We have an update from the
Administration with what is going to happen there. Spoiler alert, we're going to get a forester
here pretty soon, hopefully this year, that would be fantastic. Also, working on the Tree City USA
building toward applying for funds from them for the first time in a very long time. We've been a
member of Tree City USA, we've been in Tree City from the very beginning since the 1970s, but
really leveraging that relationship to grow our capacity there. Also, doing more private side tree
planting. They've certainly stepped up to the plate and helped us there and have been a great
resource. Also, to share a little bit about what they've done in the previous year like doing the
contest with the Observer and finding trees around the community that people could nominate
4
