Councilmember Bullock acknowledged that future conversations will be necessary to work <br /> through the details of the proposal, which he is prepared to do. <br /> Holiday Lighting Expansion - $25,000 requested <br /> Councilmember Bullock introduced the holiday lighting proposal to support recovery of <br /> downtown businesses by increasing holiday lighting and grow the customer base for businesses <br /> on Detroit Ave. <br /> Mayor George expressed support for the strategy of enhancing holiday lighting downtown and <br /> noted that this has been discussed internally. She explained that her administration will need to <br /> have further discussions with First Energy. She is of the understanding that the existing lighting <br /> has been grandfathered in by First Energy, but that the city will be charged for additional lights <br /> that are attached to utility poles. <br /> Director Leininger suggested that the west end corridor be explored as a potential site for <br /> additional lighting. <br /> Councilmembers Marx, Baker and Kepple expressed support for the proposal and shared <br /> thoughts on the proposal. <br /> Councilmember Bullock expressed open-mindedness to broadening the existing proposal to <br /> include all areas of the city. Councilmember Bullock committed to allocate an unspecified <br /> amount from his personal ARPA allocation toward this proposal. He asked for the first steps <br /> toward enhanced lighting happen this year. <br /> Community Pet Cares Project- $25,000 requested <br /> Councilmember Rader expressed a commitment to allocating individual ARPA funds toward the <br /> proposal put forth by the Citizens Committee for the Lakewood Animal Shelter. Councilmember <br /> spoke to the good work of CCLAS and the independent fundraising done by the group over the <br /> past few years. He noted that the pandemic limited CCLAS's ability to fundraise. <br /> Councilmembers Marx & Rader agreed to each contribute $12,500 of their individual <br /> ARPA Funds toward the proposal by COLAS. <br /> Animal Safety& Welfare Advisory Board Spay/Neuter Events - $6,400 requested <br /> Councilmember Bullock expressed his support for LASWAB's proposal and a willingness to <br /> allocate individual funds toward this proposal. <br /> 3 <br />
