M.V. ORDINANCE NO. 81- Page -6- Section 5. OPTIONAL HOLIDAY Each employee shall be entitled to three (3) "optional days" as a paid holiday in addition to those paid holidays authorized by ordinance, subject to the approval of the employee's Department Head. Section 6. HOLIDAYS (a) The following six (.6) days shall be deemed to be holidays on the dates on which they are observed under the laws of the State of Ohio: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. A full-time employee shall not be required to work on any of said holidays unless in the opinion of his responsible administrative superior his failure to work would impair the public service, (b) COMPENSATION FOR HOLIDAYS WORKED. If not required to work on said holidays, a full time employee shall be entitled to receive pay at his regular rate of compensation on such holiday on which he has not worked; provided, however, that if any employee without just cause (as determined by the head of his department) fails to report to work on a regularly scheduled work day immediately preceding or immediately following such holiday, he shall not be entitled to compensation for the holiday not worked. If an employee's work schedule is other than Monday through Friday, he shall be entitled to a day's regular pay for a holiday observed on his day off, regard- less of the day of the week on which it is observed. (c) COMPENSATION FOR HOLIDAY~~WORKED. If a full-time employee works on one of the above-designated holidays, he shall receive two (:2 ). times his regular rate of pay for that day and in addition, shall be entitled to another day off with his regular rate of pay, the day to be selected by his administrative superior. Section 7. SICK LEAVE All permanent full-time employees shall be entitled for each complete eighty hours of service to sick leave of four and six-tenths hours with pay, except in the Fire Department where they shall earn fifteen (:15) sick leave days per year. Employees may use sick leave with the approval of their Department Head for absence due to illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease, and. illness in the employees immediate family. The appointing authority of each appointing unit shall require an employee to furnish a satisfactory written signed statement to justify the use of sick leave. If absence due to illness exceeds three (:3) days, a statement certifying the nature of the illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify
