OPTIONAL HOLIDAY <br />Each employee shall be entitled to three (3) "optional <br />days" as a paid holiday in addition to those paid holidays authorized <br />by ordinance, subject to the approval of the employee's Department <br />Head. <br />Section 6. HOLIDAYS <br />(a) The following six (.6) days shall be deemed to be <br />holidays on the dates on which they are observed under the laws of <br />the State of Ohio: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, <br />Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. A full-time employee <br />shall not be required to work on any of said holidays unless in the <br />opinion of his responsible administrative superior his failure to <br />work would impair the public service, <br />(b) COMPENSATION FOR HOLIDAYS WORKED. If not required to <br />work on said holidays, a full time employee shall be entitled to <br />receive pay at his regular rate of compensation on such holiday on <br />which he has not worked; provided, however, that if any employee <br />without just cause (as determined by the head of his department) <br />fails to report to work on a regularly scheduled work day immediately <br />preceding or immediately following such holiday, he shall not be <br />entitled to compensation for the holiday not worked. If an employee's <br />work schedule is other than Monday through Friday, he shall be entitled <br />to a day's regular pay for a holiday observed on his day off, regard- <br />less of the day of the week on which it is observed. <br />(c) COMPENSATION FOR HOLIDAY~~WORKED. If a full-time <br />employee works on one of the above-designated holidays, he shall <br />receive two (:2 ). times his regular rate of pay for that day and in <br />addition, shall be entitled to another day off with his regular <br />rate of pay, the day to be selected by his administrative superior. <br />Section 7. SICK LEAVE <br />All permanent full-time employees shall be entitled for each complete <br />eighty hours of service to sick leave of four and six-tenths hours <br />with pay, except in the Fire Department where they shall earn fifteen <br />(:15) sick leave days per year. Employees may use sick leave with the <br />approval of their Department Head for absence due to illness, <br />injury, exposure to contagious disease, and. illness in the employees <br />immediate family. The appointing authority of each appointing unit <br />shall require an employee to furnish a satisfactory written signed <br />statement to justify the use of sick leave. If absence due to <br />illness exceeds three (:3) days, a statement certifying the nature <br />of the illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify <br />
