ORDINANCE NO. 81-39-'~ <br />Page --2~- <br />In the event that the above question receives a majority vote at <br />the election to be held in Mayfield Village on November 3, 1981, <br />then Article XII shall be correspondingly amended by the addition <br />of Section 8, thereof, to read as follows: <br />Section 8. ward Boundaries. <br />The Council of Mayfield Village shall adjust ward <br />boundaries within one year after receipt of certification <br />of the results of the decennial census and may, <br />from time~tor-tune, adjust ward boundaries if <br />population shifts merit the change, but all such <br />changes shall be made in such fashion as to 0 <br />provide substantially equal:_population in each <br />of the wards. All wards shall be bounded, as <br />far as practicable, by county lines, streets, <br />alleys,' lot lines, avenues;. public grounds, canals, <br />water courses, municipal corporation lines, and <br />center lines of of platted streets and shall be <br />cornposeel of adjacent and compact territory delineated <br />by straight lines and right angles. <br />The Appendix of the Charter referred to in this question shall be <br />the znap and legal deseri~ption attached hereto as Exhibit "'A'!', which <br />shall be considered part o~.the ballot question and which shall be <br />posted at each polling place within the Village. <br />The ballot ,question for the above shall be as follows: <br />(.B) Shall Mayfield Village. be divided into four wards <br />of substantially equal population with one member of Council <br />to be elected from each ward and the balance of Council- <br />~me~ibers to be elected at large? <br />In the event that either ballot question (A) or (B) shall be adopted <br />by the electorate, then there shall also be adopted the following <br />transitional Section to replace the current Section 2 of Article III <br />of the Charter. This new transitional Section shall be posted at <br />all polling places along with (_A) and (B) . <br />Section 2. Transition. <br />I'~, at the election of November., 1981, the electorate <br />of Mayfield'Tillage approves, by majority vote, <br />the reduction of the size of Council from seven <br />members to five, or, approves, by majority vote, <br />the division of Mayfield Village into wards, then <br />the following shall apply: <br />Tf the Council is reduced ins°_number to <br />five persons at the November, 1981 election, <br />but the City is. not separated into wards at <br />
