ORDINANCE NO . ~ 81-39 <br />Page -3~ <br />that time, then all members of Council <br />in office at the time of the general <br />election to be held in the municipality <br />in November, 1983, shall serve until <br />the end of December 31, 1983, at which <br />~.. time their positions shall be deemed <br />terminated. At the general election <br />to be held in November, 1983, the <br />candidates polling the three highest <br />number of votes shall be elected <br />for a term of four years and the <br />candidates polling the fourth and <br />fifth highest number of votes shall <br />be elected for a term of two years. <br />Thereafter, all municipal Council <br />elections shall be for a term of <br />four years. <br />In the event that the municipality is <br />divided into wards at the election in <br />November, 1981, then, at the general <br />election to be held in November, 1983, <br />.candidates shall declare whether they are <br />running for seats as members of Council <br />from a ward, which is limited to the <br />ward in which the candidate resides, or <br />whether the candidate is running for <br />membership in Council at large. At the <br />general election in November, 1983, the <br />Councilmembers for wards 1 and 3 shall <br />serve for a term of four years and the <br />Councilmembers from wards 2 and 4 shall <br />serve for a full term of two years. <br />A candidate from each ward polling the <br />greatest number of votes shall be elected <br />as Councilman from that ward. <br />If there~is to be only one member of Council <br />elected at large due to a reduction in the <br />size of Council from seven members to five <br />members, then the candidate for Council at <br />large polling the highest number of votes <br />shall be elected for a four year term. If, <br />however, there are to be three members <br />elected to Council at large, then the <br />candidate polling the highest number of votes <br />and the candidate polling the second highest <br />number of votes shall be deemed elected <br />for terms of four years and the candidate <br />polling the third largest number of votes <br />shall be elected for a term of two years. <br />
