<br />Section.
<br />(b) Approved connections. At appliance
<br />connections, an approved shut-off valve shall
<br />be installed at the end of the house gas pip-
<br />ing and shall be located ahead of any tubing
<br />serving as an appliance connection. Appli-
<br />ances, such as central heating, room heaters,
<br />unit heaters, and water heaters, shall be con-
<br />nected to the house lines with rigid pipe.
<br />Other flue connected appliances, such as gas
<br />incinerators, recessed wall heaters and radi-
<br />ator heaters in fireplaces, shall be connected
<br />to the house lines with rigid pipe, semi-rigid
<br />tubing and fittings, or flexible metal tube
<br />connectors with a total length of not more
<br />than 2 feet. The appliance connection to the
<br />house gas piping shall be made with a
<br />ground-joint or gasket union located on the
<br />appliance side of the shut-off valve.
<br />(c) Rigid, semi-rigid and flexible metal
<br />tubing. Gas heat appliances which are mov-
<br />ed occasionally, such as ranges, refrigerators,
<br />clothes driers and hot plates, shall be con-
<br />nected to the house lines with rigid pipe, or
<br />semi-rigid tubing and fittings, or appliance
<br />connectors of flexible metal tubing. When a
<br />semi-rigid tubing connector or a flexible
<br />metal tubing connector is used, the connec-
<br />tion shall be made to a house line outlet in
<br />the same room as the appliance. The length
<br />of the connector shall not exceed 6 feet and
<br />it shall be installed so as to be protected
<br />against mechanical injury,
<br />(d) Flexible gas hose. Flexible gas hose
<br />approved by the Building Official may be
<br />used for connecting gas appliances designed
<br />for portable use, such as ironers, flatirons,
<br />bunsen burners, torches, or other appliances
<br />the location of which may be changed prior
<br />to or du"ring operation, provided, however,
<br />that such flexible gas hose shall not exceed
<br />6 feet in length and where such gas hose is
<br />used, an approved shut-off valve or gas-cock
<br />shall be installed at the point where the gas
<br />hose is connected to the house gas piping,
<br />Flexible gas hose shall not be concealed from
<br />view. No valve shall be installed at the gas
<br />inlet to the appliance.
<br />(e) Prohibited. joints. Compression,
<br />flared, soldered, or sweated joints or fittings
<br />shall not be used in gas house piping, but
<br />compression or flared fittings may be used
<br />for meter connections and at appliance con-
<br />nections where exposed to view and observa-
<br />tion.
<br />1595.09 Size of piping.
<br />The piping shall be of such size and so in-
<br />stalled as toprovide asupply of gas sufficient

<br />to meet the maximum demand without loss
<br />of more than 0,30 inches water column of
<br />pressure between the meter and the appli-
<br />ances. In determining the size of the gas pip-
<br />ing, due consideration shall be given to fu-
<br />ture demands as well as the existing factors
<br />and conditions. The main gas supply line
<br />and the branch line to any central heating
<br />appliance shall be not less than 1-inch di-
<br />ameter pipe. Pipe sizes based on the recom-
<br />mendations of the AGA Reference Manual
<br />for Modern Gas Service and/or the Ameri-
<br />can Standard, Installation of Gas Piping and
<br />Gas Appliances in Buildings, ASA 221.30,
<br />will be accepted as in conformity with this
<br />Section.
<br />1595.10 Gas piping and meters-restricted
<br />locations.
<br />(a) Stair enclosures and exitways. No gas
<br />meters and no gas piping shall be installed
<br />within any stair enclosure or exit passage-
<br />way or within any other required means of
<br />egress from a building.
<br />(b) Obstructed or unventilated locations,
<br />Gas meters shall not be installed underneath
<br />any stairway, nor in any space which is with-
<br />out adequate provisions for ventilation, nor
<br />in any location where the use of the space or
<br />premises may cause access thereto to be ob-
<br />structed,
<br />(c) Under basementless floors. Gas serv-
<br />ice piping shall not be installed through or
<br />under a crawl space under a first floor or
<br />basement floor construction, or under a floor
<br />laid directly on the ground or fill, except by
<br />special permission from the Building Of-
<br />ficial.
<br />(d) Concealed piping. No pipe smaller
<br />than standard 1/z inch iron pipe size shall be
<br />used in any concealed location. Concealed
<br />piping shall be located in hollow rather than
<br />in solid partitions. Piping to be concealed
<br />shall not use, unions, running threads, right
<br />and left couplings, bushings or swing joints
<br />made by combination of fittings. When
<br />necessary to insert fittings in piping which
<br />has been installed in a concealed location,
<br />the piping maybe reconnected by the use of
<br />a ground joint union with the nut center-
<br />punched or otherwise set to prevent loosen-
<br />ing.
<br />(e) In solid floors, earth or cinders. Pip-
<br />ing in solid floors, such as concrete, shall be
<br />laid in channels in the floor suitably covered
<br />to permit access to the piping with a mini-
<br />mum of damage to the building. Piping in
<br />contact with earth or other materials which
<br />may corrode the piping shall be protected
<br />against corrosion in a manner approved by

<br />1505.01 When required.
<br />A building permit shall be obtained from
<br />the Building Official before proceeding with
<br />any construction, alteration, repair, moving
<br />or demolition of any dwelling or appurte-
<br />nant structure. A separate permit shall be
<br />obtained for electrical work, plumbing work,
<br />heating appliances and all other equipment
<br />installation that is regulated by this Dwell-
<br />ing House Code.
<br />1505.02 Application.
<br />An application for a permit, signed by the
<br />owner or his authorized agent, shall be filed
<br />with the Building Official on a form fur-
<br />nished.
<br />1505.03 Plans and specifications.
<br />When required by the Building Official,
<br />two or more copies of plans, with specifica-
<br />tions either on drawings or as a separate
<br />document, shall accompany each application.
<br />Each application for a building permit for a
<br />new dwelling or alteration amounting to 25%
<br />or more of existing buildings shall be ac-
<br />companied bytwo sets of plans and specifica-
<br />tions, The plans shall include:
<br />i. Site plan; showing location on premises;
<br />minimum scale: 50'-0" to the inch.
<br />ii. Foundation and/or Basement Plan;
<br />minimum scale: ~/a"=1'-0".
<br />iii. Floor Plan of each other level; mini-
<br />mum scale: i/s"=1'-0".
<br />iv. Front, rear and side elevations; mini-
<br />mum scale: ?/e"=1'-0".
<br />v. Sufficient details, to show method of
<br />assembly and construction. The above docu-
<br />ments shall contain sufficient information to
<br />show that the proposed work will conform to
<br />the provisions of this Dwelling House Code
<br />and all other applicable laws, ordinances,
<br />rules and regulations. Each set of plans and
<br />specifications shall give the address of the
<br />work, name and address of the owner and of
<br />the person who prepared them.
<br />1505.04 Design data.
<br />Sufficient data to show the adequacy of the
<br />design shall be submitted when required by
<br />the Building Official. The Building Official
<br />may require and accept an affidavit from a
<br />registered architect or registered profes-
<br />sional engineer, stating that the design con-
<br />forms to the provisions of this Dwelling
<br />House Code.
<br />1505.05 Issuance of permit.
<br />(a) Approval. If the Building Official is
<br />satisfied that the work described in an ap-
<br />plication for a permit and the plans and
<br />specifications filed therewith conform to and
<br />comply with the requirements of this Dwell-
<br />ing House Code and other pertinent laws and
<br />ordinances, upon payment of the required
<br />fee he shall issue or authorize the issuance of
<br />a permit]
<br />(b) Disapproval. If the application for a
<br />permit, and the plans and specifications filed
<br />therewith, describe work which does not
<br />conform to the requirements of this Dwelling
<br />House Code or other pertinent laws or ordi-
<br />nances or does not contain sufficient infor-
<br />mation, the Building Official shall not issue
<br />a permit but shall return the plans and
<br />specifications to the applicant with his re-
<br />fusal to issue such permit. The Building
<br />Official shall give in writing such reasons for
<br />rejection as he deems sufficient.
<br />1505.06 Conditions of the permit.
<br />A permit issued shall be construed to be
<br />a license to proceed with the work. It shall
<br />not be construed as authority to violate, can-
<br />cel, alter or set aside any of the provisions
<br />of this Dwelling House Code or other ap-
<br />plicable laws, ordinances, rules or regula-
<br />tions, nor shall such issuance of a permit
<br />prevent the Building Official from thereafter
<br />requiring a correction of errors in plans or
<br />in construction, or of violations of this Dwell-
<br />ing House Code or of other applicable laws,
<br />ordinances, rules or regulations. The Build-
<br />ing Official shall not incur any personal
<br />liability or expense or impose any liability
<br />or expense upon the Municipality by virtue
<br />of his prior approval of any plan or specifi-
<br />cation later determined by him or any other
<br />authority to be in contravention of this
<br />Dwelling House Code or other applicable
<br />laws, ordinances, rules or regulations.
<br />1505.07 Approved plans.
<br />When -the permit is issued, the Building
<br />Official shall endorse in writing or stamp on
<br />all sets of plans and specifications, "AP-
<br />PROVED," with date and signature. Such
<br />approved plans and specifications shall' not
<br />be changed, modified, or altered in any man-
<br />ner affected by this Dwelling House Code
<br />without authorization from the Building Of-
<br />ficial and all work shall be done in accord-
<br />ance with the approved plans and specifica-
