The vrork shall b e conducted so that the least inter- <br />ference vrith traffic tivi11 result, Suitable bridges shall be provided <br />over open trenches at street intersections and driveways. <br />(1) OP~~RATIP:G TTALVES: The operation of all gate valves on existing <br />mains for making connections, tests or for any other cause shall be done <br />by the i!~Iaster Irieter municipality in v~hich the ~rrork is located or by the <br />Division of l~~tater of the City of Cleveland. The Contractor shall give <br />sufficient notice to the municipality or to the Division of ~:iater so that <br />the vrorlc may be done vrith the minimum of inconvenience to the public and <br />delay to the Contractor. All consume:cs affected by such operation shall <br />be notified by the Contractor at least one hour before the operation and <br />advised of the proba'o1e time vrher~ the service will be restored. <br />Sec. 5 L•4YING CAST IRON PIPE: <br />(a) G~AIERAL: Contractor shall provide proper implements, tools and <br />facilities satisfactory to the 1!,ng2neer for the safe and convenient <br />prosecution of the worlc. All pipe, fit~ings and valves shall be care- <br />fully 1oti°rered into trench by means of derriclcs, ropes or other suitable <br />equipment so as to prevent damage to pipe, fittings or the coating. <br />Before lowering anal. vrhi7_e suspended the pipe shall be inspected for <br />defects and rung v,2th a light ha:miner to detect craclcs, Any defective, <br />damaged or unsound pipe and fittin~.~ slia,ll be re jected and replaced with <br />a sound pipe ox• fitting in a satisfactory manner by the Contractor at his <br />own expense, All dirt or foreign ;natter shall b e removed from pipe before <br />being lowered into trench and shall be ].~ept clean during and after laying. <br />t~llien laid all pipe and fittings shall conform to the lines and grades <br />given Y~y the l~ngineer, and shall be laid to a firm and even bearing for <br />its full length. <br />-6- <br />
