price bid by Contractor shall include all such costs. <br />Sec. 12 ANCHORAGE OL BER~DS, TEES k1~D PLUGS: <br />(a) GENERAL: Reaction or thrust backing shall be applied on all <br />pipe lines 8" or larger in diameter at all tees, plugs, caps and at <br />bends def7_ectiri~; ^c2 1~2° or more and movement prevented by attaching <br />suitable steel reds. or clamps as directed by Engineer. Reaction or <br />thrust baclting s~la].1 be of Class "E" concrete Ohio State Department of <br />Highways specifications and be placed between solid ground ar_d the fitt- <br />ing to be anchored.. The.area of bearing on pipe and on ground in each <br />instance sliall_b e that required by Engineer. All such costs shall be <br />included. in price bid for special or fitting. <br />Sec. 13 HYDROTATIC TIa~STS <br />(a) GENERAL: After the pipe has been laid comp7_ete with all <br />fittings and specials properly caulked it shall be. subjected to a <br />hydrostatic test pressure of at least seventy five (7~) pounds per <br />square inch above normal operating pressure but no•t less than one <br />hundred (1C0) pounds per square inch. This test shall continue for at <br />least thirty (30) minutes and maintained until a thorough examination <br />of the main and fittings has been made. <br />(b) PROCEDURE: Each valved or ctherva~ise isolated secti on of pipe <br />shall be slowly filled with v~rater and the specified test pressure, <br />measured at the point of lowest elevation, shall b e applied by means of <br />a pi.imp connected to the pipe in such a manner satisfactory to Engineer. <br />The tests shall be :Made by an Inspector from the Division of ~"Dater which <br />shall. supp7.y the gauges and meters. The pu:?p, pipe connection and all <br />other apparatus sha]_]_ be furnished by Contractor. All air sY~all be <br />expel7_ed from pipe before applying test p-res~ure. <br />(c) i~,XAI~:iINATIOIQ TJN71 E;R PRESSURE: burin€; the test all pipe, fittings, <br />specials and joints shall be carefully examined. Any joints sYio~rring <br />leakage shall be made tight. Cracked or defective pipe, fittings or <br />specials discovered in consequence of this test shall be removed and <br />replaced with sound material and the test repeated until satisfactory <br />to both the Inspector from the Division of 1~Tater and the Engineer. <br />(d) URAINITdG i~AIi~1 A~+ TER T:C~~TIPdG : After a s ection of pipe has been <br />tested satisfactorily the Contractor shall drain same. In cold weather <br />irmnediately after testing a section of pipe Contractor shall open all <br />valves, aircoclcs, by-passes and drain bonnets of al_1 valves and take <br />all other precautions necessary to prevent freezing. <br />Sec. 11~ PRELIiu11NARY I'LUS~iIitG: <br />(a) PROCi~,DL~: }3efore being placed in service al_1 dirt and <br />foreign matter slia]..1 he removed from the r~etiv vaater main or extensions <br />to existing mai ns by a thorough f].us~~~_ng through the hydrants or by <br />other approved ri~ea;is. Each valved section of new7_y laid pipe shall be <br />flushed independently.
