If a full-time employee <br />works on one of the above-designated holidays, he shall be compensated <br />at the rate of one and one-half times his hourly rate f or each hour <br />worked and shall be given compensatory time off equal to the number of <br />hours worked, with such compensatory time off to be first approved by <br />the department head. (For example: a Class B Sargeant earning $11.72 <br />per hour is required to work an 8 hour shift on Christmas Day. He <br />woulcl be compensated at the rate of $17.58 per hour for the 8 hour <br />shif t and would also be entitled to 8 hours compensatory time.) <br />4. Compensation for Holiday During Vacation. If a full-time <br />employee is on v.acation during one of the above-designated holidays, <br />that day shall be considered a holiday day off and shall not be <br />countecl or compensatecl as a vacation day. <br />G. Sick Leave , <br />1. All permanent full-time employees shall be entitled f or each <br />complete eighty hours of service to sick leave of four and six-tenths <br />hours with pay, except in the Fire Department where they shall earn <br />fifteen (15) siek leave days per year. Employees may use sick leave <br />with the approval of their Department Heads for absence due to <br />illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease, and illness in the <br />immediate family. The appointing authority of each appointing unit <br />shall require an employee to furnish a satisfactory written signed <br />statement to justify the use of sick leave. If absence due to illness <br />exceec7s three (3) c3ays, a statement certifying the nature of the <br />illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify the use <br />of sick leave. Falsification of either a written statement or a <br />physician's certificate shall be grounds for disciplinary action <br />including dismissal. No sick leave may be granted upon or af ter <br />retirement or termination of employment. <br />2. Any permanent full-time employ ee who has an accumulation of <br />'forty-five (45) days unused sick leave will be compensated at the end <br />of the year for the number of hours not taken up to a maximum of five <br />work days. Accumulation of sick leave shall exclude hours for which <br />compensation has been paid. <br />3. Upon retirement all full-time employees shall be entitled to <br />receive credit and payment not to exceed thirty (30) calendar days in <br />lieu ot unused accumulated sick leave, provided that they have been <br />employed by the Village for ten (10) years or more. For purposes of <br />this section, an employee shall be considered to have retired when <br />such employee takes action that is inconsistent with any reasonable <br />intent to continue employment with the municipality. <br />4. If a full-time employee is scheduled to work on a holiday <br />enumeratecl in Section 6(a), and cannot work due to illness, that clay <br />shall be considered a holiday day off and shall not be counted or <br />compensated as a sick day.
