M.V. ORDINANCE NO. 88-26 <br />Page -3- <br />the fireplace throat to a point at least 2 inches above <br />the top of the chimney. Flue linings shall be installed <br />in accord with Section 1559.07. <br />RDHC 1567.03 SIZE AND SPACING OF STUDS. (Amended) <br />Studs that support only a ceiling or roof may be 2 <br />x 4s, spaced 16 inches o.c. For the support of one or <br />two floors, use 2 x 4 studs on 16 inch centers. Where <br />studs support more than two floors, use 2 x 6s spaced 16 <br />inches o.c., unless otherwise stipulated by the Building <br />Official. For side walls, the use of 2 x 6 studs is to <br />be used for purposes of R-19 insulation. <br />RDHC 1567.07 FRAMING OPENINGS. (Added) <br />(c) HEADERS. All opening for the installation <br />of windows, doors and arches shall be flitched. Steel <br />flitches must be used for all openings for wall bearing, <br />second story support openings and garage doors more than <br />one-story. All other openings shall be supported by <br />one-half inch plywood flitches. <br />The minimum size of header for non-bearing and <br />bearing areas shall be the following: For openings <br />under 32 inches in non-bearing areas, the minimum size <br />shall be 2 inches x 6 inches; for openings under 8 feet <br />in bearing areas, the minimum header size shall be 2 <br />inches x 12 inches with one-half inch plywood flitch; <br />for openings greater than 8 feet in bearing areas, the <br />minimum header size shall be 2 inches x 12 inches with <br />one-half inch steel flitch that is bolted through 24 <br />inch on centers. <br />RDHC 1567.11 PLYWOOD WALL SHEATHING. (Amended) <br />(a) TYPE AND THICKNESS. In compliance with <br />Section 1545.08, one-half inch plywood wall sheathing <br />shall be used with studs 16 inches o.c. The fastening <br />of exterior covering to plywood sheathing shall consist <br />of angularly-threaded nails or other nails acceptable <br />to the Building Official. This Section does not require <br />corner braces when plywood wall sheathing is used. <br />
