Page 2 <br />Ordinance No. 73-25 <br />automatic sprinkler equipments to carry into effect the provisions of the <br />Ordinance. Approval of deuices shall be based on reports of a nationally <br />recognized testing laboratory. All rules adopted by the Chief of the <br />Fire Department under this section shall be promulgated at least one month <br />before application and enforcement. <br />Sec. 3. Where Installed <br />Approved automatic sprinkler equipments shall be installed <br />and maintained as follows: <br />(a) All new buildings, garages, warehouses, basements, <br />cellars, and hazardous occupancies that are not existing at the date of <br />this Ordinance. <br />(b) All new additions to buildings as in (a) of this <br />section; where the new addition is 5,000 square feet or more, the total <br />of new addition and existing buildings if 5,000 square feet or more, an <br />additional floor or story, or where the addition is 20b or more, all of <br />which the complete building shall have a sprinkler system installed. <br />(c) Basement and cellar additions as in (a) of this <br />section, where the addition is 2,000 square feet or more, or the total or <br />the complete basement or cellar is 2,000 square feet or more, a sprinkler <br />system shall be installed. <br />(d) Especially hazardous properties. Throughout <br />every building which by reason of its inferior construction or highly <br />combustible occupancy involves a severe life hazard to its occupants or <br />in the judgment of the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention constitutes <br />a fire hazard to its occupants or a fire menace to adjoining property. <br />(e) Buildings for the manufacture, storage, or sale <br />of combustible goods or merchandise throughout every fire-resistive <br />building occupied in whole for the manufacture, storage or sale of com- <br />bustible goods or merchandise, if one or more stories in heights 5,000 <br />square feet or more in area, or if over three stories in height regard- <br />less of area. <br />(f) Throughout every building of other than fire- <br />resistive construction as herein defined, occupied, in whole or in part, <br />for the manufacture, storage, or sale of combustible goods, or merchandise <br />if one or more stories in height., 5,000 sq. ft, or more in area, or if <br />over three stories in height regardless of area, or in such parts of <br />buildings of this class as may be specified by the Chief of the Fire <br />Department. <br />(g). Throughout public garages as follows. Fire- <br />resistive buildings, 5,000 sq. ft. or more in area. Non-fire-resistive <br />buildings over 3,000 sq. ft. area. <br />(h) Throughout all basements and cellars of buildings <br />having an area of 2,000 square feet or more, or its total area, used for <br />the manufacture, storage, or sale of combustible material or merchandise, <br />or the housing of automobiles or vehicles of any type. <br /> <br /> <br />
