projects, since elderly people spend nearly all their time inside the building or on the site. The building shall be oriented so that each dwelling unit will receive direct sunlight during part of the day. The buildings shall be designed to express a sense of personal identity, intimacy, human scale and residen- tial character throughout the development. The yards shall be designed to incl ude small, intimate, private yard and court areas for a variety of passive activities, and be attractively landscaped. Safety shall be emphasized in the design. The interior of the site shall be assigned to pedestrian use, and except for service to the building entrance, vehicular circu- lation driveways shall be restricted to the perimeter of the site. Parking areas may penetra*_e from the perimeter driveways; they shall be interspersed with landscape islands, and otherwise designed so that the paved areas do not dominate the site. Abrupt grades shall be avoided throughout the site, all changes in grades in the walk system shall be accomplished by easy ramps; there shall not be more than two exterior steps to any building used by the occupants. All buildings of two or more stories shall 'be served by elevators and otherwise incorpor- ate the safety and convenience features re- quired by other codes. 11SECTION 31.5 MAIN AND ACCESSORY USES Buildings and land may be used and buildings shall be designed, erected, altered, moved occupied and maintained only for the uses set forth as permitted, such as: a. Main Uses: Apartments, cottages attached or detached dwellings. b: Accessory uses, facilities and services such as: -Health: Medical examination, nursing care facilities; -Social: Assembly, lounge, library, music, and other semiprivate and multi- purpose rooms;
