MAR-13=95 MON 4.17 ADMINISTRATION FAX N0. 216461055 P, 04
. ~•
Mayfield Village Fire Station
March 9, 1995
L~age 2
be recompacted or rema~red and replaced. Particularly close
attention would be paid. to areas where old utility Lines have
been removed.
General site fill and demolition excavation and trench backfill
would be tested for moisture content and density to confirm that
it has been compacted to specified densities. Field compaction
test results would be compared to moisture-density curves deter-
mined in'our laboratory. In the absence of laboratory determined
moisture-density curves, or if soil conditions are extremely
variable, one-point Proctor tests would be performed on the site
to establish a temporary compaction standard until a laboratory
test is completed. The excavating contractor and project super-
intendent would be promptly notified of any deficiencies in the
earthwork, so that they can be corrected prior to placement of
additional fill. '
Footing dimensions, reinforcing steel, placement, and concrete
placement would be monitored for conformance with the project
documents, The bearing surfaces would be probed at close inter-
vals to reduce the possibility of soft or 1,oose soils remaining
in place at the .bearing elevation. Footings are expected bear on
undisturbed soils throughout mast of the building although iso-
lated areas of engineered fi~.l are likely to be encountered.
Reinforcing steel in non-footing concrete construction would be
monitored for cleanliness, spacing, grade, lap lengths, and
general conformance with project documents.
Representative loads of fresh concrete would be tested for slump,
temperature, and percent air where applicable. The time from
initial mixing to placement would be recorded. Six inch diameter
text cylinders would be cast and transported to our lab for
curing, compression testing, and reporting. We would give par-
ticularly close attention to concrete placed for floor slabs,
because of the potential for warping and curling to develop
unless care is used in their construction.
High strength bolted connections would be torque tested as re-
quired. Acceptance criteria would be based on torque/tension
calibration using a Skidmore Wilhelm Bolt Torque Calibrator. The
bolt calibration would be performed in the field using bolts from
the project. Visual we].d'i~nspection would be provided as re-
quired in the project documents, Inspection and any required
testing of welds would be provided by MQS 2nspection, Inc.
Masonry construction quality control would include verification
of reinforcing steel placement where applicable and sampling and
testing mortar and grout as specified in the project documents.
