Other Recreation Facilities: In addition to Mayfield Racquet
Club on Beta Drive and Parkview Golf Course on SOM Center Road,
the probable age composition of Mayfield Village's population
indicates the need for a small, centrally located passive park.
Furthermore, the distribution of preschoolers, in relation to
the street pattern, suggest that at least one "tot lot" should
be considered in tandem with other community facilities in each
of the Village's seven Plan Areas.
Finally, Chapter II outlines the possible provision of at
least 55 acres of common open space in conjunction with future
residential development (see Residential Options, Pages 12=13).
If implemented, this land will be an .important adjunct to the
Village's recreation system. While privately owned and
maintained by adjacent residents, all common open space uses
including swimming pools, community buildings and tennis courts,
should be carefully considered by the Village as part of the
overall review of each proposed new residential development.
VILLAGE SERVICES
Municipal Buildings: Mayfield Village's 2.0-acre site at Wilson
Mills/SOM Center has traditionally accommodated its
governmental, police and fire protection facilities. In 19 a
service center was built immediately north of the Village's
playground on SOM Center Road. Recent studies by Rauschenbach,
Casini and Urban imply that major changes to the size and
arrangement of municipal buildings are needed. The following
three options have been formulated.
With the acquisition of
parcel to the west,
governmental, police and
new Village Hall, and
historic Village Hall o
Mills/SOM Center;
one residential and one business
accommodation of all needed
fire protection facilities in a
preservation of the existing
n the present site at Wilson
- Provision of a new Fire Station and preservation of the
existing Village Hall on the present site, but relocation
of police facilities and administrative offices to a new
2.0-acre site at the northwest corner of Beta/SOM Center
which-is now occupied by three one family dwellings; or
- Relocation of all facilities to a new Village Hall site
immediately north of Mayfield School District's
Administration Building on SOM Center Road (see Business
Options, Pages 14-15).
Library: The Mayfield Regional Library was built in 1970 on a
2.5-acre site on Wilson Mills Road adjacent to Mayfield High
School. The Library includes 27, 000 square feet. With 36.0
annual circulations per square foot, it is one of the most
20
