- Other Community Facilities: Provision of new or expanded
facilities such as churches, health and social clubs, and
utilities on up to 20 acres indicated on the Comprehensive
Plan (MaP 2).
TRANSPORTATION: Generally, Mayfield Village's network of
arterial and collector streets is established. However, the
following improvements to the thoroughfare system will be needed
by the year 2010: -
- Arterials•
- Widening of SOM Center Road (SR 91) from Sandalwood
Drive north to White Road to four lanes with
appropriate signals and turning lanes at Beta,
Highland and White, and newly created intersections at
Sandalwood, Thornapple and Hickory; and
- Intersection improvements to SOM Center and Wilson
Mills Roads in concert with redevelopment proposals
indicated on the Mayfield Center Plan (Map 3).
Collectors:
- Widening of White, Highland and Ridgebury Roads to 24,
26 and 30 feet, respectively; and
- Intersection improvements to White and Highland Roads
at SOM Center and Lander Road at Wilson Mills and
Ridgebury.
- Local Streets: Reliance on the existing street pattern
alone would result in critical traffic congestion, hazards
and inconvenience. Accordingly, the local street planning
process- should continue. That~is, the location of all new
or extended streets proposed within the boundaries of
local street plans adopted by Mayfield Village should
substantially conform to the patterns shown thereon, as
well as the provisions of the Village's Land Planning and
Subdivision Regulations.
IMPLEMENTATION
The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to define the type
of community Mayfield Village desires to be based upon the
preceding goals and objectives. The Plan is not a static
statement that, once adopted, is filed away. It should be~
regarded as the basis for public action on all development
proposals, and a clear guide to private interests on the 'likely
disposition by the Village of such proposals.
31
