M.V. ORDINANCE 91- <br />Page 12 <br />department head. (For example: A Class B Sergeant earning $11.72 per hour <br />is required to work an 8 hour shift on Christmas Day. He would be <br />compensated at the rate of $17.58 per hour for the 8 hour shift and would <br />also be entitled to 8 hours compensatory time.) <br />4. Compensation for Holiday During Vacation. If a full-time <br />employee is on vacation during one of the above-designated holidays, that <br />day shall be considered a holiday day off and shall not be counted or <br />compensated as a vacation day. <br />5. All full-time employees of the Police and Fire Departments who <br />work the majority of a shift on a holiday shall be compensated for the <br />entire shift in accordance with the holiday pay provisions set forth <br />hereinabove. - G. Sick Leave <br /> <br />1. On the first day of each quarter of the year all permanent forty- <br />hour (40) employees shall be credited thirty-two (32) hours sick leave, <br />except fifty-three hour (53) employees who shall be credited forty-eight <br />(48) hours each quarter. Employees may use sick leave with the approval of <br />their department head for absence due to illness, injury, exposure to <br />contagious disease and illness in the immediate family. The department <br />head of each appointing unit shall require an employee to furnish a <br />satisfactory written signed statement to justify the use of sick leave. If <br />absence due to illness exceeds thirty-two (32) hours or forty-eight (48) <br />hours in the case of a Fire Department employee, a statement certifying the <br />nature of the illness from a licensed physician shall be required to justify the use of sick leave. Additional statements from the physician <br />may be required by the department head for prolonged illness. <br />Falsification of either written statement or physicians certificate shall <br />be grounds for disciplinary action including dismissal. No sick leave <br />maybe credited upon or after retirement or termination of employment. <br />2. Unused sick leave may be accumulated for a total seven hundred <br />twenty (720) hours for all full time employees, except for a fifty-three <br />hour (53) employee who may accumulate a total of One thousand eighty <br />(1,080) hours. <br />3. Any new permanent and/or rehired full time employee hired on or <br />after January 1st of a given year, shall have sick time credited as <br />follows: <br />a. If the employee is hired within the first fifteen <br />(15) days of.the first three (3) quarters of a calendar <br />year, such employee shall be credited thirty-two (32) <br />hours sick leave except in the fire department where
