of-way boundary, which will allow us to install more extensive landscaping and buffering all
along that property (from Wanda Hejcl's flower shop in the south to the Upper 40 stream culvert
that passes beneath S.O.M. at the Cemetery's north property line); a new, 25- home cluster
development is proposed for the west side of S.O.M., just adjacent to the southern pedestrian
underpass, the new Falls and our 4-acre park/stream preserve (the Falkner property, A.K.A.
Goetz's Grove); and, we predict, Fisher's Tavern itself will enjoy new life, perched atop the
south ridge of the park.
The extension of the landscaped medians all the way to Fisher's will greatly enhance the
Greenway we are seeking to achieve, concurrently improving pedestrian-vehicular traffic
relationships, while beautifying our Village.
, In fact, early feedback from the TRAC Board reflects its appreciation of our efforts to
keep the S.O.M. Widening project "GREEN," specifically citing our inclusion of landscaped
median treatments.
The Greenway concept has enjoyed popular support from our residents and those in
neighboring communities. Media coverage has been su portive; the Greenway was featured by
Cleveland Ma.ae in selecting Mayfield Village as 3r?in this year's rankings of area
municipalities.
Our engineers have come up with a well-designed plan; it recognizes the limitations that
unfortunately do not favor extending medians any further south; driveway access is provided to
virtually all properties fronting S.O.M., with the exceptions being those lying too close to
intersections. The plan seeks to promote more, not less landscaped medians, which ultimately
can be more easily reduced in size than be created after the roadbed is poured.
Again, we are optimistic that the interplay between construction and Village personnel
will continue to uncover cost reductions as the project unfolds.
BGR/ls
