Mr. Strater then read a letter he had received from the Mayfield <br />Methodist Church9 saying that we wozxld receive a check in the near future to be <br />donated to the Police Sunshine Fznde This was for their appreciation of the <br />tine and effort extended by Vi].lage employees on behalf of the church0 <br />" Mr, Strater, reporting for the Safety Cormni.ttee, said that' althaugh <br />the bids for a nnw police ear were rejected, he still thought that we should > <br />advertise again. Mr. Strater went on to say that the bids received were based on <br />a standard car. Mr. Strater then spoke of the condition of our police ear and <br />the amount of money that wou].d have to be spent to put it in shape. The . <br />Cominittee felt that, as the car had over 609000 mi.les9 we should readvertisee <br />Mr. Strater than said we should omi:t the detailed specifications from the ad <br />but fi1.e them with the Clerlc and thus cut the cost of advertising. <br />It was then moved by Mro Strater, seconded by Mrs. Brown, that we <br />advertise for a new police car and omit the detailed specifieatioxas from the ad. <br />Ro].1 Ca]1: Ayes ?Viessrs ZoY°xi9Wedler9Strater,Brown.,Grootegoed & Hopkins. <br />Nays - None. <br />Motion carried. <br />Mre ?dedler, reporting for the Finance Committee, said that they had met on <br />-kpril 7, 1959, and spent a great deal o#° time going over the finances of the <br />Vi7lage and ways and means of bringing the po3.ice pay scale to a point that <br />made it°possible to oUtain another regular policeman. -Mr.'Wedler went on to <br />say that one of the things. that was°ried the committee was the fact that -projects <br />approved in Council for a certain sum always seemed to cost more when aIl the <br />bills,were in.., Mr. Wedl.er asked if it were not possible to get more firm bids <br />on these projecis and to conaa.der them from a71 anglesg so that the F'inance <br />Committee arxl Council knew what they were letting themselves in for before - <br />approv.S.ng such projects, Mr. Wedler then spoke of their discussion with the <br />Police Chief and said that he was being handicapped by their pay scale; that the <br />eommittee recommended-an increase as an incentige after the six months-Probation- <br />ary period.o ° <br />Mr. Wedler,, seconded by Mr. StratEr, then introduced Ordinance No. 659 <br />entitled: "An Ordinance to Amend Section 3 of Ordinance No. 583, as Amended <br />by Ordinance A1o. 649, by increasing the Compensation of Sergeant of Po13.ce <br />and Regular Pols.ce9nan after Six Months of Employment", which ordinance was <br />read to Council: ' <br />It was moved by Mx^sm Brown, seconded by NIr. Hopki.ns, that the rules of <br />law requiring an ordinanee tv be read on three separate occasions be suspended. <br />Ro7.l Cal1Z Ayes - Messrs Zorn,WedlergStrater'Bros-7n.,Grootegoed & Hopld.ns. <br />Nays - None. <br />° Motion carried <br />Rules Suspended <br />It was moved by Mrs. Brown' seconded by Mro Stra-ter, that Ordinance <br />No, 659.be approved and phssed. as read. <br />Roll Calls Ayes - Messrs Zorn,Wedler'Strater'Brotim'Grootegoed & Hopkins <br />Nays - None, <br />Motion carried <br />Ordinance passed 40
