Mrs. Cihon: Why eight years before it is widened?
Mayor Bennett: The County.says a minimum of eight years., .
Mrs. Cihon: Why is it an improvement?
Mayor Bennett: From the safety standpoint.
Mrs. Cihon: If Council were to take a poll, they would find that the
necessity lies in the other side of the street. Unless you have a patrolman
you invite death. Why stop at Hanover Drive?. When you:remove evergreens,
you are not improving property. I object to the assessment, also.
I •Mayor Bennett: Evergreens are on the right-of-way. .
Mr. Reich: You do not know what it is like at 7:00 o'clock., .
Mayor Bennett: That is why we want to install sidewalks.:
Mr. Reich: You will invite a hazard, children will use the sidewalks
instead of buses. They will bolt and run. Will have to :put more policemen
down there.
Mr. Godf rey: How can you get the children across when the traffic is
backed up to the bottom of the hill? ... I
Mrs. Beckman: I cannot cross•the street.to get,my.mail.:
Mayor Bennett: That is why we want sidewalks.
Mr. Edelman read a letter from Mr. FitzGerald stating that very few
wanted sidewalks. A poll-had been taken.- Gave results•of poll. No one
would use -them between Beehhill. and Hanover. - Mrs. Cihon: Not against your wishes, if:we were.dead set-would not
have reported that some were f or the sidewalks.
Mr. Reich; Should re-gravel the existing path. What happe.ned to that
project?
Mayor Bennett: Does not,recall.
Mr, Godf rey: Each time it was turned over to Mr. Wieland and he never
got around to doing it.
Mr. Mason: We have given this much study, the path,.the problem.on the
North sidee. We know that a traffic problem exists on Wilson Mills Road. , The
development of Kenwood, the Mall, Picker X-Ray, the Freeway have all contributed
to it. We have dif.ficulty coming out of Worton Park..=Unfortu,nately we cannot
remain a Village. Sidewalks have been installed on our county roads, Ridgebury,
Lander Road and Wilson Mills West. We feel that sidewalks on one side will help.
UltZmately, a caution light may be installed. Have worked out what is best
for today. The path is not satisf actory.
9.
